      receiving email problem

I am having problems with my email

I can log into the sky portal and see my emails. But I am having problems using my sky email with outlook 6.

I have read all I can find in the forum and I have set up an account in outlook using the pop.sky.com and smtp.sky.com. With this I can send emails. But I am not receiving any emails.

I read about the google email settings and I have changed the settings in the email portal to enable POP and archive emails.

I have modified my email setting with the pop.tools.sky.com settings etc. But with this modified settings I can't send or recieve emails.

When i try to connect I get the following error.

Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR not supported 40pf442440uge', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

      Does anyone have any suggestions..

      Thanks

      Re: receiving email problem

      Snoopy,

I take it you, like me are a new subscriber to sky BB & you have the new google mail web portal thingy?

Join the club!! Just like you I get those same server error messages when trying to use the pop.tools.sky.com server addresses & when I used the pop.sky.com server address I recived 1 mail, the automated "welcom to sky" mail. I'm guessing you got that too?

I've tried creating a separate account with googlemail but that didn't work either & I bet that if you tried to create additional accounts in "mysky" you would find that you can't because every name you try says it's already in use.

I can't give you any answers but I think the problem is with the google servers somehow.

I've already exhaused a thread on this subject to no avail (see here)

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-e...ease-help.html

I also know there is another new member called pgybear (I think) that is also in the same boat as us.

For the moment, All I can say is that If you follow the above thread you will find that I have finally found a solution via another E mail provider called bluebottle.com. It'd free as long as you only need one account. If you need extra alias's then you need to pay $25 a year for a higher grade of account.

Hope this helps you out!! I can't see sky/google sorting it out any time soon.

      Best of luck!!

P.S. If you do find a solution, please let me know!!

      Re: receiving email problem

Can I make it very clear that there is no problem with Google. There may very well be a problem with the Sky Email. But there are no issues with www.gmail.com

      Sky Goat,

Have you got an account with sky/google? If so what server settings have you found to work?

For sure my Sky/Google & Googlemail accounts are screwed up!! Since I created the Googlemail account, the Sky one has decided that It likes the same password as the newer googlemail account?? I can't get pop working & I can't create additional e mail addresses.

I'm just glad I've found a solution with bluebottle.com!! It works just fine!!

      Re: receiving email problem

Well, at the risk of you hijacking yet another thread.

I gave you a link to the gmail setup details here, but...

These are the only details that will work, there is no point trying alternative pop or smtp ports as these are the only ones that work - you have to make sure that you follow them to the letter. I would also suggest you remove any old google or sky accounts in Outlook before you set this up.

      1. Enable POP in your Gmail account. Make sure you click SAVE.
      2. Open Outlook or Outlook Express.
      3. Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Accounts...'
      4. Click 'Add,' and then click 'Mail...'
      5. Enter your name in the 'Display name:' field, and click 'Next.'
      6. Enter your full Gmail email address (username@googlemail.com) in the 'Email address:' field, and click 'Next.'
      7. Enter 'pop.googlemail.com' in the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:' field. Enter 'smtp.googlemail.com' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:' field.
      8. Click 'Next.'
      9. Enter your Gmail username (including '@googlemail.com') in the 'Account name:' field. Enter your Gmail password in the 'Password:' field, and click 'Next.'
      10. Click 'Finish.'
      11. Highlight 'pop.googlemail.com' under 'Account,' and click 'Properties.'
      12. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
      13. Check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' under 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP).'
      14. Enter '465' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP):' field.
      15. Check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' under 'Incoming mail (POP3).' The port will change to 995.
*The order of 'Outgoing' and 'Incoming' mail server fields varies by version. Make sure you enter the correct information in each field.
      16. Click the 'Servers' tab, and check the box next to 'My server requires authentication.'
      17. Click 'OK.'

I use Google Apps for my email, I also have a separate gmail account. Both of them work using these settings. I have also set up about 15 other people with accounts using these very same settings on a variety of email clients.

      Re: receiving email problem

May I jump in here Sky Goat. You seem to know what you are talking about.
      Would appreciate some advice...
      I have just joined SKY.
I wish to use email as I did with my previous isp by using Outlook Express.
I believe that I have got Sky Email facility but don't know t anything about the google /sky set up or past history of them combining or whatever.
I have researched these forums and used the SMTP advice I've found but these make NO Difference.
I still cannot use my old (tried, understod and tested Outlook Express).
I have contacted SKY by email and their Indian 'help' desk - No intelligent response (Or any response from the email)

I have failed to carry out what should be a simple function.

Should I then sign up for Gmail as you have described or continue to TRY to get THE CORRECT SKY SMTP etc sequence.

MInd you I suppose I COULD commit suicide.....

Hope you feel inclined to help

      Lavillegour

It would appear that you are encountering the same problem that I am having. I also used outlook express for e-mail when I had telewest supplying broadband.

Even after following the 'simple' instructions re pop I can send e-mails, however cannot receive.

It seems that no-one really has a genuine explanation as to the reasons why it will not work.

As has been mentioned on other threads 'Sky' really dont give a t0ss.
