Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
1stclass I know you have stated that you have set up Outlook to receive the new sky skoogle mail but can you just try one more time following the PDF instructions I have attached. This is for Outlook 2003 please take note of the server port numbers in fig 7 and fig 8 some of the e-mail clients show these in the reverse positions. If entered in incorrectly you will still rec but will be unable to send, just wondering if that is the case. I made the same mistake myself when following picture instructions by just entering into the relevant boxes without actually taking note of which port numbers were entered into which box.ie: top box port ### bottom box port ###.

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
Nice to see i'm not alone in this mind-bending phuck-up by Sky (I must admit I quite liked the typo elsewhere in this thread where they were referred to as Sly!)
a) I was on holiday last week, so didn't receive any emails about it
b) back from holiday, Sky email is down, so I *can't* receive emails about it
c) ...wanders over in this direction to see what the score is...
d) I eventually managed to get access via WWW but am unable to get Mailwasher or TheBat (my email program) to access via pop3 at all, despite checking all the settings
e) yes, I have reset the password, tried the Capcha link etc.
f) why the hell are we being forced to use non-standard port settings ? - it just makes life more complicated all round :-/

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
Small update to my earlier post...
Boy, did they hide the "enable pop3" option well - for those who haven't managed to find it yet:
Log into Sky first, then go to the new gmail inbox.
From there, towards the top right of the screen will be an "Mail Settings" option - click it.
From the new screen that appears, click on the "Forwarding and POP" option
You may notice that it "lies" to you - in my case it wasn't set, despite claiming it was from 8th November. Re-enable it even if it looks like you shouldn't have to, and save the changes.
Now try battling through the email setup again :-/
My email program is pretty fully featured, and I _can't_ get it to collect email - I can't even be bothered trying to test sending until the POP side is resolved ! (the official "unlisted" email config page is here Sky.com - Customer Support>Broadband>Article
I can choose from the following "simple" options for both POP and SMTP...
Secure to regular port (STARTTLS)
Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
...then configure the authentication for POP3 from this lot...
Regular
MSN(NTLM)
Compuserve(RTA)
MD5 APOP Challenge/Response (RFC-1734)
MD5 CRAM-HMAC Challenge/Response (RFC-2095)
(along with a biometric option for TLS)
For SMTP (as well as the TLS/STARTTLS options mentioned above) I get the option to Perform SMTP Authentication (RFC-2554) as well as additional username/password entry, and a biometric option.
I wonder if we could ditch Sky without penalty for breach of contract here, as they've clearly screwed up - users have lost one of the basic services (email) that they were supposed to receive.Last edited by phoe; 11-11-07 at 12:50 AM.

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
The port 995 and 587 are standard Email ports for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) which is a more secure method of POP delivery.
You are using TheBat, here is what you need to know.
smtp.tools.sky.com should use Secure to regular port (STARTTLS) on port 587
pop.tools.sky.com should use Secure to dedicated port (TLS) on Port 995
Also, make sure you tick My SMTP server requires authentication for sending mail
Post back if you need more help.

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
That seemed to do the trick - many thanks :-)
In the meantime, i'm that cheesed off with Sky, I moved email provider anyway - I already have my own domains so redirecting them elsewhere was instantaneous.
...spoke too soon - still can't send...
Update 1: I have the port / starttls configured, and i've tried the available options under the authentication setup (perform SMTP authentication (RFC2554) -> same user/password as for Mail Retrieval, Require secure authentication)
Update 2: one minute it fails, the next it doesn't - i've ditched the Require secure authentication option again, and now it works.
I hate Sky.Last edited by phoe; 11-11-07 at 10:27 AM.

Re: New Sky Email SMTP and POP Settings (powered by Google)
Since they're supposed to send you "official notices" via the primary Sky email account, I wonder where you stand by way of any changes to T&Cs that you have no way of accessing - I definitely can't get into the primary account, and haven't been able to since the initial password change.
That also applies to the web interface, not just email...
Secondary accounts work ok, but the primary is toast - and I have the original email to them to prove it.
