    Email, 'Unknown User'!!!

      Email, 'Unknown User'!!!

      Is anyone else getting this???

      Been sending my wife email's since being on SkyBB, (about 4 weeks), and evey now & again I get an email back saying 'Unknown User'. We thought it had something to do with her WORKS server. She's had the same Email Address for about 3yrs. Then I set up someone's email yesterday(on TalkTalk), got home and sent them an email via OutLook, and got an email saying the same thing.

      Is this something to do with Sky, as I NEVER had this with Orange.

      This is part of the Begining email.

      'This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

      A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
      recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

      xxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.co.uk
      Unknown user'

      I don't think this is related just to Sky, we get loads of them everyday from this website when people register. Beats me, unless people are putting the wrong email address when registering. The thing is though, it is mainly @sky.com email address's.

      I get this a lot of the time with the Sky smtp server.

      Using the same address book in Outlook I can try to send via sky and it will be bounced back and if I then resend by Orange it delivers no problems. For this reason I do not use sky as my primary email address.

      Another problem I have had with Sky is vanishing emails. Again using the same address book I can send an email using sky servers and it will appear to be delivered but it is never received at the other end. Using the same copy of Outlook, same address and Orange servers no problems. I have tried testing this sending mails to myself and the mail just vanishes into cyberspace. I need to know when I send a mail that is is going to get to its destination and not just vanish!

      Hello Rick, thanks for the reply.

      Looks like Sky have a problem somewhere then.

      You don't know how long it is, till Orange cancel the Orange Email account do you??? If at all.

      Does anyone know???

      I was not aware that Orange were considering cancelling their email service. I like to use that as my primary one as I get a text notification on my mobile when I receive a new email.

      I have read these forums deeper and I think my problem with the Sky sending was using the incorrect smtp server. I was using mail.sky.com but reading this thread (I just don't have the time to read all the threads ) it appears we should be using smtp.sky.com

      I have changed my settings in Outlook and been trying a few test mails to friends and family but it is too early in the morning for any responses yet. I am also trying out the imap server.

      Hello Rick,

      I don't know if Orange are canceling thier email with anyone that NO-LONGER pays for thier sevices. I was just thinking that's what they did after a set period.

      I have been know to be wrong

      P.s. My SMTP has always been SMTP.SKY.COM.

      My misunderstanding. My Orange email is provided with my mobile phone not broadband services.

      Well my mail still going astray even with the changed smtp server name so will just be relying on my orange email until I can think up a decent domain name for the family.
