Speed dropped by 1mb for no apparent reason?
OK - for many months I have had a stable connection at around 8mb (just over 8mb usually), with an SNR that hovers around 7dB. The last time I'd checked the stats, it had been online for a couple of months.
Today I noticed that my router had a speed of 7007, and a noise margin over 10dB. If this has happened in the past, I usually reboot, and I get increased speed again, and noise margin back to 7dB. Unfortunately I've rebooted a couple of times, and the speed seems to be stuck at exactly 7007.
Anyone any idea why this may be? Should I contact Sky to ask for my extra 1mb back - is there a setting they can change (and what should I ask for!)

Any thoughts anyone?

Re: Speed dropped by 1mb for no apparent reason?
Is it just the noise margin that has increased or your line attenuation?
The noise margin will increase if more noise is found on your line to provide more protection against that noise interfering with your ADSL connection. Have you introduced any new electrical devices that could interfere with the phone line? Have you checked your connection by using the test socket?

Re: Speed dropped by 1mb for no apparent reason?
No the line attenuation is always around that level. I'm not aware of getting any new devices. The main socket is downstairs, so I haven't unplugged everything yet to try the test socket.
What seems odd is that whenever I restart it always syncs now at precisely 7007kbps - I restarted just now after over a week, and it has again synced at exactly that speed. Previously I could hardly ever to get it to sync at precisely the same speed twice in a row!

Re: Speed dropped by 1mb for no apparent reason?
Your line has been capped at 7008 kbps for some reason, maybe a temporary fault. Call Sky and ask them to either run DLM training on your line or configure it manually.

Re: Speed dropped by 1mb for no apparent reason?
Cheers for the help guys. I contacted Sky via the online chat facility and explained to the guy there what the situation was - he was very helpful and just escalated it to their next line support straight away.
Few days later and a few remotely instigated resyncs, and I'm now faster than ever before! Currently synced at 8581kbps down and 1023kbps up!

Just as a final update - it got even higher than this.
Now seems very stable at - faster than I ever had it before! Don't know what magic they pulled after I contacted them but I'm very happy.
