      Capped - Arghh!!

      Hi All,

Been reading up on Sky DLM and after a few calls to their tech support thought I'd post on here for some advice.

I came from TalkTalk LLU (AOL - $hite ISP, but free PS3 ) and migrated to sky earlier this month. My DLM finished on the 15th, and it looks like I've been capped at 3072kbps? Sky seem to think this is 3.0Mbps and tell me thats the max I'm going to be able to get. I understand that their SNR ratio target it 7db and I was getting 3992kbps sync with AOL with a SNR of around 5db, so assuming below I should be getting about 3.5 (in Sky MB's) aruond 3500kbps sync?

Spoken to a couple of 1st liners, and have been told that Sky keep back .5Mb as a "buffer" in case there are any line issues? He also told me that Sky do not allow speeds to be set between the .5Mb, so one could never get 3.25Mb etc.. Does this sound right?

I've asked to be put through to a member of CST, but they fobbed me off saying that they were "extraordinarily busy"

I know that I'm quibbling over a measley .5 of a Mb, but when you have a slow-ish line, every .5Mb counts!!

Any advice guys and gals, other than being persistent with Sky?

      Thanks.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 57 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 9 db 7 db

Ring them and tell them to uncap the downstream to 4096kbps and keep the line on g.dmt. Job done.

Should I keep persisting in contacting them until I get someone who can do this?

Yup. If the advisor can't do it, then ask to speak to a manager directly.

They weren't fobbing you off. CST aren't picking up the phone.

Some of us have LAMA access and can reconfigure your line at Tier 1, its just a question of getting someone who can.

      Re: Capped - Arghh!!

Another call tonight, and another mugging off by the tier1.

"I have put a request in with my manager to update the LAMA system, you should be able to get an extra 800kbps on your line, it will take 24 hours"... yadda yadda.

When IS the best time to call to get someone half decent, as I've had muppets so far.

Perhaps start by not calling them muppets, get into a nice frame of mind and call again

      Re: Capped - Arghh!!

Well, clearly I don't say that to them! ;-)

Perfectly polite, and calm - I used to work on an IT helpdesk so am used to being on the other side of things, just frustrating that this doesn't appear to be a simple process.

I think using their terminology helps though, LAMA system etc...

Thanks all so far, I will prevail!
