May be slower than I should be.

Had my line installed monday and was activated the same day...

I had some nasty issues with the sky filters the first few days as it turned out they were BOTH fubar. As my line was droping on incoiming calls and there was a LOT of noise.
Lucky I have my own D-Link ones that are now in use and everything is working nice.
During these issues my connection speed was at about 11meg..
Of course finding out what was causeing my problems I could not help several router restarts and moves.
I am scared I have made the DLM think my line was poor as I have been stuck on, 9215 downstream & 798 upsream for 4 days now.

I know i am cabalbe of at least 16meg here as before I moved here I only used to live in the flats nextdoor (behind) where I am now. and I had a comfy 16meg connection there. The exchange is almost in the same street 5mins walk away.

Anyone know idf the DLM will increase my speed again?

      Here are my router stats

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 9417 663457 0 3097276 782761087 1:16:09

      WLAN Up 4417 1116 0 1151615 139285 5:38:36
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9215 kbps 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 9.0 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 15.6 dB 17.1 dB

      Thanks

Re: May be slower than I should be.

You may have influenced the DLM process with your disconnects.
However it may yet make further changes if it sees no further issues.
If it doesnt after another week or so then phone Sky and they will be able to manually reset it.
As you say with your line att you should be knocking on the door of 20 meg.

Re: May be slower than I should be.

If you have been on the same speed for 4 days it looks like DLM has set your speed. You are showing a resync with the exchange 76 minuted before you posted and still have a high margin, so I think this confirms it.

Call Sky and tell them you think DLM has left your speed low due to filter problems, could they either restart it or configure your line manually. They may tell you you have to wait out the 10 days, even if DLM appears to be complete. You could check your broadband details on your MySky page to see if anything is noted there. If it says it has completed tell them that.

Re: May be slower than I should be.

      Update..

The incorrect reported speed and ping was due to Utorrent running in the background that i did was know was set to run on boot >_<

Still does not explain why i am re sybced slower though. before i went to work I deided to quickly move the router to the master socket and leave it there till the end of the 10 days. would sky reset the test and start the 10 days over? as i had internal problems..

      Oops!

Let your DLM period complete it's task first.

If the stats are reflecting a poor speed compared to what is possible, then you are free to call Sky to get it adjusted.

Re: May be slower than I should be.

Ok I have had about 3 line drops tonight. I have looked at my log and extracted this from the last one..

Apr 17 22:19:19 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL link down
      Apr 17 22:19:21 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: xDSL G.994 training
      Apr 17 22:19:37 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL G.992 started
      Apr 17 22:19:41 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL G.992 channel analysis
      Apr 17 22:19:45 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL G.992 message exchange
      Apr 17 22:19:46 (none) user.crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL link up, Bearer 0, us=798, ds=8190

Is this from their end or my end?
The training started part makes it look as though the restarts are remote.

This is probably why DLM has dropped your speed even further.

Do you have a Test socket? If you have, plug in there and run it for a few hours, see if you still get the drop outs.

If you don't have a Test socket, remove the faceplate of the master socket and take the wire off the number 3 terminal if there is one fitted. This is the ring wire and is not required with modern phones or when using filters. It can interfere badly with broadband. Make sure that any other sockets in use have a filter plugged in first, this applies especially to Sky digiboxes.

Re: May be slower than I should be.

Obviously DLM is complaining because of all the disconnections which you are experiencing.

This indicates a line fault somewhere. A couple of things which may help to identify the cause:

      * does it disconnect in a predictable pattern? i.e. when picking up the telephone

      * are there any trees near your telephone line or is it underground and goes when a heavy lorry passes?

      * are you connected through the Test Socket?

      * do you hear any noise on the telephone line? To test this, using a corded telephone connected to the test socket, dial '1' and listen carefully

      * is there any current or recent work in your local area which is/was close to the telephone lines?

Edit: lol - Ok Tom & I are on similar strains. I'll leave mine as we are looking at slightly different causes.
