      Stats + DLM Question

      Hi There,
Last Monday had my Sky BB go active (coming over form Virgin as I couldn't warrant the cost any more).
I have had DLM running the for the whole week, but haven't noticed any speed changes (I can confirm that the training has been running in the logs). Current stats are:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5020 kbps 157 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 dB 14.9 dB
Noise Margin 8.0 dB 7.5 dB

What do you think is the best speed I could get?

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

The tool on this site to calculate your expected speed predicts 12Mb-14Mb for your attenuation. I would certainly expect >10Mb connection speed, but you noise margin is near to the target level of 7dB already.

As for your upload speed, this is terrible at present. Theoretically you should be able to get much closer to 1Mb here.

in the mean time, could you try plugging your router into the Test socket and post the stats from there please? Whilst you are using the test socket, can you double check that any telephone extensions that you may have are all dead.

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

Hi thanks for the reply, yeah that was the kind of speed I was expecting (not straight away, but at least after a few days).
The router is currently plugged into a cat5 (3 pair) extension hard wired into the back of a iplate (as I have cat 5 hard wired network setup within the house and the master socket is about 5 meters away in the kitchen). I will move the router temporary to the test socket shortly and post the results

Agree with Scubbie that you should get over 10Mb.

As it currently stands there is not much room for improvement.

Currently I don't see you getting more than 8Mb probably more like 7Mb

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

Have you checked that any other sockets you have are dead?

If they are, you have a problem with your external line or router. How is your voice line for noise? Do you have another router you can plug in?

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

This is the only socket in the house, the phone line has a little background noise on it, but I think it sounds the same as when we had virgin. I will bring a router home from work tomorrow to compare the stats and rule out the router anyway

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

With Virgin you would probably have been on ADSLMax which is not so open to iterference as ADSL2+. The least problem with the line will be amplified with the faster mode. If there is noise on your voice line at all, that will contribute to the problem. Try the other router first, although it may not connect you to Sky, it will show the line stats.

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

Sorry should have said, I was on the Virgin cable package (phone/20MB bb). I will bring a analogue telephone butt home also to properly test the voice (as it could just be my phone making the noise)

      Re: Stats + DLM Question

Spoke with Sky the other day who uncapped my line, new stats are now:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8670 kbps 133 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 dB 14.7 dB
Noise Margin 7.6 dB 9.5 dB

However the upload is killing me. Run a speed test of 88k upload earlier (and when I do upload it completely saturates my connection). Is this my final speeds I am looking at?
