      Insane Internet Problems

      Hello im Brandon,

Ive recently join Sky broadband because of slow connections and speeds from ISP BT.

I am paying for the Sky Broadband Unlimited package and seem to be not receiving anything near what i should be, even though living on the Isle of wight i would expect to get less than people on the main land but not to this extent. I know abuse my internet and use it alot but i am on "UNLIMITED" so i would expect to not be restriced by this much, to be precise i am getting 1/42 of what i am expecting.

I know what your going to say, Have you done an internet speed test, Have you scanned your computer and Is someone connected to your internet within your house to cause these problems. Well heres my internet speed test results (to let you know i had trouble loading this page because of low speeds...) :

This is from where i am to coventry.

Also i scanned my computer for an malicious software causing problems but seemed my computer was completely clean. (Used AVG scan, After having a reliable few years with them Unlike Nortan)

To also let you know i did the internet speed test with my wireless disabled to see if it is my family causing the problems. And of course i get the same results.

I maybe being restricted because of my prenowned use but from the original 7mb to 0.19mb is admirably unfair. Even not peak times (7pm-12am) i am still seeing the same results.

As said before i was experiencing problems with BT so you may ask could it to be something with my line, Well i had this checked with BT ,who i could say were completely lieing, and they said "Well we can see no problem with your line" i took this into consideration and thought maybe if i change ISP. So i changed to Sky, having good reviews from friends. Well it seems to be ive acctualy had worse speeds with sky than BT were i was peaking at around an AMAZING 0.25mb.

Ive heard people complaining on forums : i normally receive around 7mb but recently been hitting under 3mb.
Well im hitting under 0.2mb, i think this is a bit extreme. I have called and they say we will sort this out within 7 days... 7 days later... No change slow internet speeds again. Its either the Isle of Wight has bad connect but my friends download at much higher speeds e.g 2mb and he lives down the road from me OR Every ISP in England specifically hate me and give me bad internet speed for thier own satisfaction.

If you have any idea or help please post. Dont post unnecessary stuff that i have allready answered.

      Thank you.

      Post up your stats:

How to get your router statistics

I sniff that you could have been provisioned onto BT Home 250, not Sky Broadband Unlimited. Could be wrong, of course, so the stats will show the bigger picture.

      WOW! You've got:

      1. a LONG line and things won't get much better, or;
      2. a line fault

Try your test socket and post stats again and we'll comment again but if that attenuation figure of 69db doesn't come down there's not a lot more to be had...

      Re: Insane Internet Problems

I dont have one of these sockets. So i cannot test but ealier today around 3:30pm i recorded my highest ever speed heres the results

I am very happy with theese results even after paying for 7mb... But it still seems my internet is very faulty. Little things like loging into programs causes terribly high ping.

      Re: Insane Internet Problems

How many telephone sockets do you use?
Is the router plugged into an extension socket or the master socket?
Is the router connected to any extension cable(s)?
Does every telephone socket in use have a microfilter connected directly into the socket, with nothing before the filter?
Is Sky tv connected to any telephone socket? If so, explain how it's connected.

      Re: Insane Internet Problems

      I use 2 telephone sockets.
The router is plugged into the master socket.
The router has an extension cable but its only around 8 foot long.
Every telephone socket is using a microfilter and they are connected directly into the socket, with nothing before the filter.
Sky TV is connected to a telephone socket, it is connected by a ADSL cable and directly goes into the socket with no filter.

      Re: Insane Internet Problems

Try without the extension, 8ft is not long but if the cable is defective it will shatter your speed. also your Sky tv line to the telephone socket must be filtered.
