I had heard that it would be the middle of October. Who knows for sure?

      Hello

I'm new to this forum but found it invaluable for information about my Sky+ box. I would like to know if radio programmes will be available on the BBC iPlayer as part of Sky's catch up service?

      Welcome to the forum cylon6.

Unfortunately those of us who are on the Beta forum cannot answer this question as we have had to agree to an NDA.

Once we can let people know more we will.

      That's understandable. Thanks for that.

Now I'm just waiting for my old Amstrad box to update. Got a new box for my parents and the new look EPG is glorious.

      No problem.

I understand that the new beta group is working hard and contributing much to helping get the next 3 STBs debugged and for the firmware to be rolled out.

I've got the Amstrad 780 so it'll be some time yet. Getting all of the catch up services and new EPG can't come soon enough.

I have to doubt it. BBC iPlayer is specifically for BBC TV, there are no radio channels available on the version of BBC iPlayer which is available now to the general public. I am pretty sure until BBC themselves start offering Catch up Radio programs, Sky will not be doing it.

I should clarify that is what happens on internet TV I suppose it is possible Sky will introduce the PC version, which does have radoi catch up.
With thanks to NR for the correction.

BBC iPlayer Desktop (the one that runs on computers) only allows downloads for TV, so I don't reckon Catch Up TV on Sky (which is downloading not streaming) will allow radio catchup until BBC allows radio download in general.

Re: BBC iplayer launch date 1st October?

I have a question regarding the Iplayer

When we get it will we have to download shows like we do with the ITV Player or will it load instantly like it does on Blu Rays and the PS3 ect

BBC iPlayer adding Live Restart to Sky, Virgin and Freesat on 15 October

The BBC is adding the Live Restart feature to the iPlayer portal running on Virgin Media and Freesat set-top boxes from 15 October. A launch on Sky is also expected very soon, following the satellite broadcasterís recent revamp of its On Demand feature to add a Catch Up TV section.

Live Restart was unveiled in June this year on the desktop PC version of iPlayer. It enables viewers to jump back to the start of a BBC programme thatís currently being shown. Before its introduction, you had to wait for a show to finish before it was uploaded to iPlayer.

It is similar in theory to the live TV buffer feature in PVRs, but your set-top box would need to be on and have one of its tuners switched to the channel on which you wanted to skip back in time, so the Beeb's update is arguably more flexible and convenient. With the Live Restart function you can choose from or switch between any available live BBC TV feed.

So, if you missed the beginning of a programme, you can now launch the app from the newly updated Red Button menu on any compatible broadband-connected set-top box and catch the show without missing anything or having to wait until itís over.

The feature is being added just as the number of Red Button video streams from the BBC is being reduced, though the BBC plans a few extra features to accompany certain shows, such as a live commentary for Strictly Come Dancing and a play-along game for Antiques Roadshow, as well as special sport and music events.

Live Restart has not yet made its way onto the iPlayer apps for mobiles, tablets, Smart TVs or Freeview HD boxes but the BBC has previously hinted that updates are in the pipeline.
