The 'Live Rewind' is something specifically available for the PC.

The BBC iPlayer app is available across a range of different platforms. None of the others offer this feature to my knowledge.

All the content which is currently available in the 'Catch Up TV' section is placed there by the different providers.

The current design of the STB means that a range of people with different connection speeds can all use it in much that same way. There are many Sky BB customers who would not be able to stream live video at a reliable speed.

But the beeb have said it will be available to internet connected TVs and it sounds from the previous post that Virgin will also get it. I suppose it depends on whether the red button service on Sky can connect to the BBC servers to pull content.

I think in the long run us Sky customers will get everything there is to offer.

I'm not sure streaming will be available on Sky which is why I was curious about the possibility of listening to radio on the iPlayer.

Yes Virgin Media customers will get the live rewind feature but only if you have TiVo

The Sky+ HD STB already offers something like this, provided that you are already on the channel or have bee recording the programme/film in question.

Currently it doesn't offer live streaming off the Internet. Since many Sky customers do not have a suitable broadband connection speed it is unlikely that they will add this to all the Sky+ HD STBs at this time.

It's only 60 minutes in settings or if you've been on a programme for a fair bit you can rewind past that point as long as there is space space on the hard disc. iPlayer allows live rewind on several channels when you go to them. Not sure Sky will be able to do that with current technology.

The iPlayer rewind function is different to the Sky+ box rewind. As you say the Sky box depends on the program already being recorded to the HDD. This cannot happen with Live iPlayer. It is more like the iPlayer program being put into catch up immediately it starts playing, so this will depend on BBC, not Sky..

I assumed it was a technological limitation of the Sky box to do that rather than it being stopped at the BBC's end. Seems like an iPlayer experience similar to that on PC is something that could eventually happen after all.
