      BBC I-Player catchup problem

      Hi,
I have two boxes on the network, both HD and on a standard multi-room contract. On both boxes when selecting BBC catchup and BBC1 or BBC2 for yesterday and today I get a message 'for your information there are no programmes of this type'.

Very frustrating. All the other catchup services are working fine and right up to date.

      Any thoughts guys?

      Cheers

      BBC iPlayer – Currently unavailable

      *** Thursday 2 October 2014***

BBC iPlayer is temporarily unavailable due to a technical problem.

This is under investigation and when further information becomes available we will update this FAQ.

Please note that BBC iPlayer Radio is unaffected.

Seems it's at the BBC end

      Re: BBC I-Player catchup problem

It looks to be across the board for BBC and the other channels on my main STB. All are missing updates that should have been posed for the last to days.

There is a known issue, but it is vague on the detail:

ON DEMAND - DELAYS IN NEW CONTENT APPEARING - Sky Community
      Good Morning,

We currently have technical issues with some of the box sets for October, as a result, you may see delays in new content appearing on our On Demand and Catch Up services.

Our technical teams are working hard to resolve this issue and I can assure everyone that these shows will be made available asap.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I just tried catch-up on my box & got the same message.
Backed out of it, tried again & it's ok now.

It's not the first time either.

Which is a bit odd considering that it's the BBC, who IMO have generally done very well with regards to iplayer.
That's logical consistency on the sky platform (availability, synopsis info etc) + stability of apps on other devices.

      Re: BBC I-Player catchup problem

For all i can get into iplayer catch-up, what's happening when i'm there is iplayer messed-up.

For each programme, they've added 'SD' to the info tab where you'd normally see:
      HD for high definition
      W for widescreen
      S for subtitles
      etc.

Every one that has this 'SD' in the banner also has no extra info when pressing the 'i' button on the remote.
(Doing so should display file size, expiry date etc).

Not only that, one HD programme i saw available - 'The Driver', BBC1HD is 60 minutes & 6.63GB in size!
6.63GB is great for me if it means greater quality but what about folks on 2Mb connections?

There's definitely something wrong going on tonight.

      Re: BBC I-Player catchup problem

      Apologies Meteosat.
I can't see anything for today or yesterday either if i go via the iplayer 'channels' route.

Checking the first entry for tuesday on BBC1 though - 'pointless'.
It has 'SD' in the info banner yet no thumbnail graphic, file size or expiry date info.
All others without SD in the banner are fine.

'Pointless' is currently downloading ok, although at 4.7GB for 45 minutes of footage should be of extraordinary quality.

      More on demand strangeness.

Here's my bqm graph showing the 2 downloads i did last night:

The first, just before 12am is pointless - 42mins of HD at 4.7GB.
The second, just after 12am is top gear - 59mins of HD at 2.72GB.

Not only are the file sizes inconsistent, but so is the effect they've had on my 22Mbps sync line.
I've downloaded 100's of programmes from catch-up before & until now, every single one has only ever caused a small blip of yellow on the graph.

With the potential volume of work required, the longer this take to resolve, the longer it may take to get everything back up and running correctly.

Are you sure that the NSA aren't watching you?

I think that the LMA might also be interested in what you do too. Apparently the LMA like to cut it close sometimes and really like to keep things neat and tidy. Anyone showing the slightest sign of a stray thought tends to feel the sharp end of their spooks.

Yep, any mention of broadcast & quality in the same sentence is likely to be flagged.

The LMA were very busy during the olympics too, with all those tweets about how mo farah was flying.

      Re: BBC I-Player catchup problem

Just realised that in my haste i was being a bit stupid last night.

On iplayer, if a programme is SD only it won't display SD in the banner, which is normal.
If it's HD only, HD will be displayed - again normal.

SD is only displayed in the banner alongside HD when there is the option to download either.
So pressing the 'i' button for file size info can only work after choosing the resolution doh!

Anyway, they seem to be on their way to fixing it now.
There's nothing there for today yet, but a few programmes are starting to trickle in for yesterday & before.
