Changing From Sky Fibre to BT Infinity 2
My Sky Fibre contract is up this month and I've been looking at moving to BT Infinity (basically I want BT Sport for the MotoGP)
I spoke to BT and they can offer me BT Infinity 2 with Download speed up to 80Mbs ,Sky Fibre Unlimited is up to 36Mbs.
Why cant Sky give me the higher speeds and what (if anything) will I lose by moving Broadband and Phone line to BT from Sky.?
Cheers

Let me see... can Sky offer speeds higher than 40mb down and 20mb up...

SFUP is a little bit more expensive than BT Infinity 2 though. You will also get the BT HomeHub v5 if you sign up now. Since you already have the BTO Modem you can use this with the HH5 or you can plug the HH5 directly into the socket in the filtered faceplate.

Re: Changing From Sky Fibre to BT Infinity 2
Ah, yes, I forgot about SFUP and it is a little more expensive.. a LOT more if you factor in the extra £15 per month for BTSport (for MotoGP) would cost me on top if I don't move to BT (where it would come free)
There doesn't seem to be any advantage to staying TBH.

PS: I take it that either supplier would have to run new cabling in place of the copper wires into my house from the street?Sky Subscriber since 1990

Re: Changing From Sky Fibre to BT Infinity 2
If you want the BT Sports, then yes that would be a beneficial feature of signing up to BT's Infinity package.
I believe that tTheir line rental is a little higher than Sky's, but the 80/20 package is less. The net difference is that BT is still slightly cheaper.
As for the wiring: No change required.
The only work required would be for the BTO Engineer to move your connection from Sky's kit to BT's kit. He would then need to ensure that you are on the 80/20 profile.
If you decided to stay with Sky and to upgrade to the 80/20 product, then someone at Sky would simply need to put the upgrade on the system and in most cases it will go through over night. Simply reboot your SR101 or 2504N router in the morning and the new speeds will show on it. Of course that would tie you to Sky for another 12 months.
