Help - Migrating from Waitrose.com to Sky

Signed up to Sky BB & Sky Talk + rental last week with instructions to obtain MAC code from Waitrose, which I did (via their website) within hours. After 2 days I rang Waitrose and was told they were unable to provide a code "because Sky had already started to take over my phone line".
Sky customer service appear unaware of any reason why I can't get a code & Waitrose are adamant they can't give one.
Probably a bad move, but I have paid 20 to Waitrose to cancel the service.
      Anyone else had similar problems?

Whether line was being taken over or not Waitrose should have given the MAC as soon as it was requested not days later when a process was already underway. Tell Waitrose you want your MAC or you will contact OFCOM.

You must be givin your MAC code with five days from asking for it, according to Ofcom's rules.

If you have asked for you service to be cancelled that is different and is liable to cause a lot of downtime, you say you paid 20 to have it cancelled, why?

Once a cease (cancel) has been passed through to BT then little can be done to stop it, once the cease has been done it will take around 10 days for the line to be cleared and then upto another 10 days for the new service to be put in place so you may be looking at 3-4 weeks downtime.

Yep get the mac, don't ask to cancel. If you are in the cancellation process there is nothing that can be done now.
