So far so Good on Kemptown BRIGHTON exchange
Type : Mid
Order Date : 8/10/06 - hiccup - then 18/10/06
New Connection
Router Arrived : 27/10/06
Connection Due : 3/11/06
Actually Connected : 3/11/06
Up sync speed :416kbps
Down sync speed : 4608kbps
Distance from the exchange : 3.83 km
This is weird. Installation went very smoothly - only hiccup was me accidently disabling my network card :-)
Weirder still, but just fab nonetheless, is that both Sky and BT inititally told me I would get upwards of 3000kbps, then BT realised my line was wrongly listed as old-fashioned hardwired, ie no plug and white box in the house. When they changed that, their (and Sky's and anybody else's) line speed test insisted I would get only 500-1000kbps.
I've just tried the DSLZone.uk line test which still says 500kbps, but here I am (so far) steadily pulling in 4000kbps + :-) :-)
From ADSLGuide.org.uk:
Downstream 3,860.7 Kbps ( = 3.8 Mbps )
Upstream 349.4 Kbps ( = 0.3 Mbps )
From the Netgear Router Status page:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4608 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 14.0 db
And then, immediately after a soft reboot....
*** Update ***
Just installed an XTE2500, specs are now:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4576 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 56.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 13.0 db
Which as you can see, has made bugger-all difference :-)Last edited by le.bouch; 06-11-06 at 03:18 PM. Reason: Further testing
