Replacing Sky Router with a Cisco 5505 ASA

I want to replace my Sky Router with an ASA 5505 Firewall that I've got my hands on but I'm not sure how to set it up so it has an outside interface/ public IP.

I've done this before with Virgin, where I put the Virgin router in to modem mode & connected the modem to the ASA on the outside interface I configured & the ASA gets a public IP from the modem using DHCP & it works like a treat.

I have a static IP from Sky so it would be really handy for using for site to site VPN access.

You can't put the Sky Router in to modem mode as far as I'm aware so I'm curious as to how I would go about setting this up to get a public IP from my Sky router.

I imagine I'm going to have grief as I believe I also need to extract the username & password from the router for any third party router/Firewall to take over the role of the Sky router.

Has anyone done this in the past successfully, any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

You'll need an openreach or other ADSL modem.

Static? I thought Sky only issued statics to Fibre Pro customers, and they don't do that anymore now either.

Are you on Fibre or ADSL, I know your info says Sky Broadband Unlimited which I thought was ADSL.

I've got the standard Broadband with ADSL, I pay an extra fiver a month for a static IP address.

What would the solution be then, to connect an Openreach modem to the phone socket & then attach the ASA to that?

Yes, you just need get the login credentials to work in the Cisco, that's Option61. No idea how you do that with a Cisco ASA but I think I read somewhere it supports it.
