Constant Connection drops every night!
hi there.. so ive had zero to no problems what so ever with my sky broadband.. however as of recently (3 days ago) my connection has been randomly dropping every night at around the same time.
the connection always drops at around 1:00AM > 3:00AM in the morning.. here are logs of the most recent Dc'ing

ive removed the IP for security concerns off course!
the connection drops for at best 1-2 minutes and never any longer! but still very annoying considering this always happens around the same time im watching my youtube playlist etc. and never (at least not to my knowlegde) when im playing games or something...
i still remain connected through steam... i dont go offline or anything like that and my connection still shows that its fine in the taskbar!
it just randomly happens on chrome for some unknown reason!
any ideas on how to fix this ?Last edited by Rokugan; 28-05-15 at 03:41 AM.

Re: Constant Connection drops every night!
Hi Rokugan.
If the connection is dropping only once each night, it's possible that sky's DLM system is currently retraining the line in order to achieve the best possible speeds & latency.
If training is in progress there should (after 3 days) be a notification in the 'my broadband' area of the mysky section at sky.com.
Have your router stats significantly changed recently?

If it is just one drop out each night at exactly the same time then it is likely to be DLM fine tuning the line.
Can you post your router stats please.
They're unlikely to reveal anything now but will serve as a benchmark & may indicate whether DLM is in training mode or not over the coming days.
Also, take a note of the system uptime from the stats page.
Unlike all the other stats this shouldn't be resettling to zero each night.

Re: Constant Connection drops every night!
And more importantly the result!
The last time DLM trained my line i ended up with over 22Mbps downstream whereas the original estimate was only 11.2 - 18Mbps.
I did see / click a link on my travels throughout mysky today.
It was in the trouble-shooting area & titled something like 'To see if your line is currently undergoing testing click here' but it just took me to the 'my broadband' page which now only shows the original estimate given at sign up.
Yes, definitely do not reboot the router Rokugan.

Re: Constant Connection drops every night!
it drops out roughly the same night.. all the info i said in my OP..
system stats as of now are.
Broadband Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 15356 kbps 1313 kbps Line Attenuation 32.0 dB 18.9 dB Noise Margin 3.4 dB 4.4 dB
however downstream noise margin was at around 6.1 dB at the moment of the connection dropping and line attenuation is far far higher for some unknown reason in both areas. downstream more than upstream.
system up time is 230:03:39 as of this posting
i dunno why i would do such a thing as there is no need for me to reboot my router.... im still connected to the internet just the connection drops randomly early in the morning.. im still connected through teamspeak and steam for example... i dont get DC'ed there. just when im on a browser!

Re: Constant Connection drops every night!
Everything you posted there indicates that DLM is most probably training the line.
Apart from one thing:

If do you monitor your speeds & they haven't dropped lately, then TBH it's hard to imagine that the attenuation figures could have risen significantly.
DLM often tries switching from a target margin of 6dB to 3dB at resync in order to squeeze out a bit more speed, although if too many errors are detected it'll put it back to 6dB at a subsequent resync.
Being a gamer have you noticed better ping times?
DLM has been known to put some ADSL lines on fastpath.
Regarding reboots, i didn't mean to be patronising.
It's just that rebooting the router during training can cause it to stall & getting sky to start DLM again isn't always easy.Last edited by gymno; 28-05-15 at 08:38 PM.

Re: Constant Connection drops every night!
yep just done it again right now!
how long is this DLM testing going to keep going on for now... been happening every single day for like the past 5 days at best
