Re: how to limit bandwidth in all but a specific device?
There is no cheap way to do it I'm afraid. Most routers which can control the bandwidth of different devices connected to it are not cheap. This is one for example - 300Mbps Wireless N Router TL-WR841N - Welcome to TP-LINK You will find routers with Quality of Service (QoS) but this usual means giving priority to one protocol over another, Gaming over streaming etc.
It might be possible using open source firmware such as Tomato, but you would need to find an ADSL router capable of being flashed with it.

Re: how to limit bandwidth in all but a specific device?
If flashed with Tomato it would but it is not an ADSL router, you would need a separate modem to use it. It may be possible by piggy backing it on to the Sky router and creating a separate network, as instructed here - http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...nk-dir613.html You would need to turn off the DHCP server and wireless in the Sky Hub. You would also need to establish if the router can be flashed. The built in features would not do what you want. Possibly DD-WRT firmware would also do what you want, this is available for this router. Maybe a DD-WRT user could say whether this firmware would suit your needs.

Re: how to limit bandwidth in all but a specific device?
You could add a managed switch
I limit my son's room to 40mbit down and 10mbit up like so

Re: how to limit bandwidth in all but a specific device?
You can pickup a
Zyxel GS1900 8 Port for £48
and a
Zyxel GS1900 24 Port for £83
Prices have come down loads in the last few years
I recently swapped out my 24 port unmanaged for the managed one
I only use 16 ports but its prudent to have spares
Its quite well spec'd and the web interface is fast and the last firmware update was jan 2015
It has 64mb ram and a 500mhz mips cpu for the web interface
which ofc doesnt get used for switching duties as thats done in hardware
oh and its fanless and uses a peak of 14 watts (good for a 24 port switch)
with 16 ports enabled and eee on its using under half of that
Just for kicks i have rate limited the uplink to the router at 80 down and 20 up
and it seems to be giving me more throughput
Not sure if its a blip or im actually getting better throughput
its usually around 76
