Sudden Drop in speed and Sky & BT cant help
I have the "Connect" service through Sky and up until six weeks ago I was connecting at 7.1meg during the day and this would drop at peak times to 2.8/4.0meg. However my speed has suddenly drop to 2.5 during the day and anything from 0.15 to 2meg at peak times. BT have been out and checked the line and they say nothing is wrong. Sky have replaced the router and initiated DLM which is now complete but the line is the same. Sky moved me from "fast past" to "interleave" but no change. Sky have basically said that it is down to traffic management and there is nothing they can do - they have said that they are updating the traffic management to limit customers but i am not one of them and they don't know if i will be. Is this the end of the road e.g. if I move to say Plus net would i still suffer from this?

Re: Sudden Drop in speed and Sky & BT cant help
Connect is the worst package Sky offer for 2 main reasons. First it is subject to heavy throttling by both BT and Sky. Second it is expensive for an up to 8Mb bandwidth limited product. You will almost certainly get a better deal with Plusnet who have a close relationship with BT and I believe are able to offer BT's 21CN product where it is available.

If you are able to order Fibre you could have Sky Fibre Unlimited which should be a lot better.

Re: Sudden Drop in speed and Sky & BT cant help
Hi Unfortunately we are in an area that does not have fiber and our exchange is not LLU and I believe only has 20CN equipment in. Therefore would Plusnet or even BT be able to give a better service with lower Traffic management?

PlusNet are the preferable service out of those two, but why not check to see what is happening first...

Re: Sudden Drop in speed and Sky & BT cant help
Yikes! Sorry about that.
Another option would be to take a look at your County Council's website then. See what they say about BDUK and completing the Fibre coverage in your county. This might be a few years away, so the switch is probably the best option for now.
Sky haven't installed any of their kit in new exchanges for some time now so I can't see them doing so where you are. Had fibre been available, SFU is priced at £20 per month, but there are often introductory offers available even for upgrades.
