Sky hub wifi not powerful enough?
I recently moved from BT to Sky Fibre and have since had issues with dropouts which have now been traced to an overhead cable and sorted.
However, all this technical stuff got me doing speedtests everywhere and I would like to know if what I am getting is all I can expect over wifi or whether there is any way I could improve it. Ok, so generally I am getting download speeds:
Laptop connected by ethernet cable to Sky hub - 39.9
Laptop 50cm from sky over wifi - 26
iphone / ipad 20ft away - typically 22
Anything upstairs - typically 18
Uploads are just below 10 everywhere.
I should add that to get these speeds I had to manually change the channel. I have tried a Sky extender but it makes no difference to speeds.
So it's usable, but: 1) should it be better? and 2) can it be improved by adding a third party router?
It may that this is as good as it gets with wifi, I'd just like to know.
Thanks

Re: Sky hub wifi not powerful enough?
Standard wifi that's about right. If your laptop and other mobile devices support faster wifi protocols then another router that also supports them would probably give you a faster link. Then you might get into 5Ghz terratory and get issues with distance... swings and roundabouts.
