What advantage to swap BT line rental to Sky.
Have sky TV, BB unlimited, but BT line rental which is coming to 12months advanced rental ending in December.
Would i get any offers to switch to sky?, is it quite a straight forward procedure.
Any problems moving back to BT in the future if needed. His name was nut, Mr P Nut.

Re: What advantage to swap BT line rental to Sky.
The main things I would suggest that count are price and possible issues/non-issues should you have a line problem.
Currently Sky don't officially offer line rental in advance, but you might be able to get this through the retentions department in Scotland. Otherwise BT Retail's line rental would be cheaper as you can pay this in advance.
Line faults are the biggest bug bear IMHO. If your line develops a fault which messes up the broadband, but not the telephone calls, often the line provider (BT Retail in your current case) will declare that you have to talk to your broadband provider. If the line is damaged, then it is the line provider's problem. This argument can go on for days or weeks.
If you have everything with the one provider, then you only need to deal with the one firm.
Someone might argue "but what if someone digs up the line?" This tends to knock everything out though.
As Ofcom have regulated the ability to port your phone number between all the providers, this shouldn't be an issue.

Re: What advantage to swap BT line rental to Sky.
If your advance line rental with BT is coming to an end it might pay you to renew it soon as BT have announced a line rental increase due to take effect in December. Sky haven't announced anything yet but it wouldn't surprise me if they followed suit.
Updated:
The only problem with this is if you were thinking of upgrading to Sky fibre then you would lose out as you would have to transfer your line rental to Sky.

Sky have announced line rental will go up on 1st Dec. website doesn't seem to state to what though except that it will still be cheaper than bt standard line rental.

Just on mysky chat and it is £16.40 from December. No advance rental and you are not allowed to re-contract for 12mths to get a deal either.

Twas an interesting chat.... 48 mins and hot no where, transferred twice and all I found out was £16.40. No offers on line rental in advance and no offers for re-contracting for 12mths and no offers on TV from winback team. I've emailed the transcript onto to the mysky email address.

Re: What advantage to swap BT line rental to Sky.
Am i right that my BB would go down to £7.50 a month if i change to sky line rental, at the minute it is £12.50.
The one thing i have at present with BT is evening and weekends free calls to certain numbers ie 0845. with sky line rental i would have to take sky anytime £5.00 a month to get that number which would cancel out the BB price drop.
Not sure now if its worth swapping line.
PS
seawright, the advaced line rental ends around 21st dec and the new charges start on dec 1st, so would have to renew
at new prices i think.Last edited by B J; 11-10-14 at 01:33 PM.

Re: What advantage to swap BT line rental to Sky.
Sorry, I forget about the £5.00 charge sometimes.
Yes this would be taken off.
I believe that Sky does offer free calls at the weekend for free for new customers. This used to include weekday evenings too.
If you pay Sky an extra £5.00 per month for Sky Talk Anytime UK you would get free calls all day everyday, including to the 0845 numbers. Other numbers are reduced a little too.
Important: Free calls are to 01,02 and 03 numbers. Also Sky's 0844 numbers are included.
