Re: thinking of moving from bt to sky
Signal strength can be affected by several attributes, such as locating it under the stairs (DM?), the type of walls you have and many other factors.
The most disappointing thing with the Sky Hub SR102 is the WiFi speed. At 144mbps and only on the 2.4GHz band, it makes for poor comparison to the current routers from BT, VM and TalkTalk.
Whilst the official line is that you can't use your own router on a Sky Fibre connection, many do.
DM's experience hasn't been great and he has struggled to set up his own router.

Re: thinking of moving from bt to sky
It's a hard decision when you know your tied in for 12 months.
The 12 months free unlimited broadband for existing customers is
very tempting. Thanks.

Re: thinking of moving from bt to sky
Your profile indicates that you have the BT HomeHub v3. That is a WiFi g router.
The Sky Hub SR101 is a WiFi n router. The signal strength is considerably better than what you have been using, so too will the speeds.
Cost wise BT have already announced that their line rental is going up by a pound. When you realise that Sky's line rental is currently £15.40, it is already less than BT's.
Broadband speed should be similar to what you are currently experiencing. Sky's current technology is getting better speeds out of lines compared to previously. Without seeing your current connection stats it would be hard for the members here to give you a better indication of what your actual connection speed might be. Sky uses their own DLM software so things can be a little different.
As for reliability, since Sky uses the same local infrastructure, where many of the personal issues can stem from, you shouldn't notice any major change in performance. Having said that things sometimes can and do go wrong with any connection.
Should you need to contact Sky for help, you will find that most of their call centres are based in the UK. They have call centres in England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and (out of normal hours or bank holidays) in India. Their Pro team is based in Bulgaria.
Most calls are automatically recorded, so if you have an issue it can be checked upon provided that it was within the last 3 months.
Criticism aside, the SR102 is a stable router. Sure it doesn't have the fastest WiFi speeds, sure it's Ethernet is limited to 100mb, but on the ADSL side a lot of members (myself included in the past) use their own routers. Fibre is a little more complicated, but equally possible. Sky has never punished anyone for using their own non-Sky router on the ADSL or Fibre connections. On the ADSL side their T&Cs no longer exclude your own router either.

Re: thinking of moving from bt to sky
I have been with Sky on their unlimited broadband at first and then onto their fttc product. No complaints so far, the router is better than the HH3 and does the job just fine for me. The customer service is much better than the experience I had with BT and I for one can highly recommend Sky.
