Messed up chosing new router.
I got hold of a cheap buffalo WZR-600DH to use with a Draytek Vigor 120 modem. But as I was reading through the instructions I noticed there was no PPPoA option in the WAN section? I guess this no good?
Thanks,
Lee.
WAN Setup
Here you’ll find the most important settings to configure your
internet access and WAN port. DHCP is enabled by default, but you can
also use PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, static IP, or HeartBeat Signal. If you
don’t use a password to log in to your ISP, you may need to enter
“0000” for the password. Also, for some ISPs you should not enter the
service name, as it will prevent establishing the connection. If you
experience connection problems, then leave the service name empty.
WAN Connection Type Description
Disabled The WAN port is disabled.
Static IP A static IP address will be used – enter the
IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and server
manually.
Automatic
Configuration - DHCP
The router obtains its WAN-side IP address
from a DHCP server.
PPPoE Configure as PPPoE-client.
PPTP Establishes connection via PPTP.
L2TP Establishes connection via L2TP.
HeartBeat Signal If you use a HeartBeat connection, consult
your ISP for setup information. HeartBeat
Signal is used only in Australia.
3G/UMTS Configures Internet Access via 3G/UMTS.
Enable USB in the “Services” section and
attach a 3g/UMTS USB stick to the router.
This setting is available in AirStations sold
in the European region only.Last edited by LeeH1978; 14-03-14 at 07:26 AM.

Re: Messed up chosing new router.
You have purchased a Cable router. It doesn't have a built-in Modem. This is where your Vigor 120 comes in.
The Vigor 120 Modem should work on your ADSL connection. Check out these two pages:

Re: Messed up chosing new router.
Hi Scrubbie, I got online with just the Vigor 120 but the speed was woeful. Only a 2-3 Mbps. Is that normal with no router?

Re: Messed up chosing new router.
You should be able to get more-or-less the same speeds that you get with your Sky router.
Double check the settings and ensure that you have ADSL2+ selected.

Messed up chosing new router.
Still stuck, I'm connected but the internet, light is off and it's very slow and troublesome to connect.
This is connect directly to my PC
Power on
ACT flashing
LAN flashing
DSL flashing
Internet off.
I get no joy at all with the router which I expected.

Ok, I have ordered a brand new vigor 120 to eliminate that as a problem.
