Recent Slow Speeds
Hey guys.
For the last week or so I've been experiencing slow speeds for extended periods throughout the day and the only way to fix them is by resetting router but this does not work everytime. I've rang sky 3 times about this problem but they say there is nothing wrong on their end after running line tests making me change wireless channels and microfilter. Running netstat etc. I have tried using wireless and Ethernet cable and result is the same. The router is located in the master socket. here are the speeds I've been getting:

and here are the stats.
System Up Time 04:46:36
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 944607 937004 0 47566 47523 04:45:01
LAN 10M/100M 4081 0 0 49 0 04:46:32
WLAN 11M/54M 941409 963466 0 48104 48160 04:46:25
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16081 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.5 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 15.0 db
If anyone can shed any light on the situation I'd be grateful thanks

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Nothing much wrong with your stats. Are you getting this slow speed at all times or just at peak?
Just to be sure it is not your software at fault, start in Safe Mode with Networking and go here and do a speedtest. Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Hi mate
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've just run the test in safe mode.
Attachment 4612
I've also tried etherent, and my brothers macbook pro and using the test socket. I really don't know what to do. I don't think it is worse at peak time, just normally bad through out the day.
Thanks Nimit

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Remember that 'peak' time includes most of the weekend. If you do some tests in the morning and afternoon of week days that would give a better indication.

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Jolly good, I'll monitor for a few days more. They are sending out one of those newer routers too so hopefully that may help.

Did one today and it wasn't any better. I think I'll wait until the new Hub arrives

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
That is really pathetic, all you can do is hope that the router is faulty and the new one fixes it.

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Hi Mate thanks for all your replies. Just to update you all the new router arrived and the internet connection is still **** poor. I've been told to let the line settle and also let the wireless channel settle. I currently have it plugged in to the master socket. Will keep you updated but really getting annoyed now.

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
Also quick question, I got tied down to another 12 month contract when they sent me the new router. Will it be easy to get out of this considering I am getting a unuseble service? Considering moving back to Virgin...

Re: Recent Slow Speeds
It looks like the problem is at the exchange, maybe next time you call you could ask for a tie pair swap. This will put you on to a different card in the exchange and may cure the problem. As your through put speed is so low I don't see how they could refuse to let you move, but it depends on Sky.
