Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
Thanks for posting this. I have asked how good the information is and am awaiting a response.
There are a couple of exchanges which I know have a problem but I don't know the postcodes which they serve as they are in a city. These are being sorted.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
@spomata: I have raised this, along with an issue from another exchange to see what is happening.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
I have had some feedback on this and currently your exchange does not appear to be having issues with congestion.
Could you run some ping tests and post the results please?
If you could ping the BBC website at different times of the day, especially when things are running slowly, it would be useful to feed this back.
The Sky Hub has a section where you can do this. Alternatively drop to the command line (i.e. run cmd) and type 'ping BBC - Homepage'.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
Back again after two weeks of tests...I must say that I've found quite constant dw/up speeds, around the maximum capability of my line...the only problem is that if somebody is playing a video (youtube or general streaming websites, non-hd content), ping latency increases enormously, making voip and skype usage troublesome.
Is this normal and due to higher bandwidth occupation? This doesn't happen when line is unused.
I'm posting a screenshot of today's test:
Thank you for your help

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
The ping and latency will increase when you connection is being used to watch a YouTube video. This is normal.
The person whom I asked checked with the network people first and found that your exchange doesn't have a congestion issue at the present time. Of course if you can provide some evidence to show that this isn't the case, then I shall pass it on, this is why I was asked if you can provide the ping results, as mentioned above.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
Well, I have no reason not to trust your sources, so I guess that it's just line normal behaviour, although ping latency seems a little high to me but I guess that there's not really much to do.
We probably need to upgrade on Fibre.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
About a year ago I was asked if wanted to join the Super User group on the Sky help forum. After some discussions with the mods here I agreed to do so.
As a part of this the Super Users have access to a private forum where we can ask the Forum staff and some other Sky staff direct questions or raise specific issues. Sometimes we get advised of things which are happening in advance (i.e. the recent rebranding of their forum to 'Community Forum') but we can't discuss those until permission is granted.
In this instance what I have done is to ask a direct question about your exchange and another which another member is having an issue with. Whilst the Network Engineers aren't in the group, one of the team chatted with them and came back with the responses I have provided.
We are working to get something else sorted out for public use.
In the mean time when issues such as yours crop up, some basic checks need to be completed first. Often there are other things causing a connection to appear to be slow and it is good practise to rule these out first. Having done that and got the response I have got, if we can show that there is an issue, then it is handy to go back and show this.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
I appreciate your help.
At this moment, another person is watching Netflix and remaining download bw is 0.5 Mbps, with ping latencies around 300 ms (tested with BT Wholesale tool). I can hardly browse this forum.
I don't think, unfortunately, that there's much to do at the moment.

Re: Sky Connect - indecent connection speed
hi all im having very slow speeds too. Been like it for the past few weeks. Been in touch with sky and they are saying there are no problems with my line blah blah blah. My speed has dropped from 4.5 meg download to approx. 500kbps. My ping has drop to 57 from 160 ish and upload speed is approx. 375 as it was. All I keep getting from sky is its something to do with BT wholesale and they cant do anything about it. They have said the only option is to leave them as much as they don't want me to and find another provider. Any thoughts
