      Phone line or switch to Sky broadband?

      Hello. First time poster, having been switched from O2 broadband with Sky buying O2 broadband and me being transferred over to Sky broadband. Ok. Anyway, about two weeks ago (we were switched from O2 to Sky about a month ago) we lost internet access. So I reset the router but still no joy. Subsequently we can only get online by taking the phone off the hook and waiting for the ringtone to die but even then the speeds are non-existent. The phone crackles and there is static, so we're waiting for BT to come out to check the line but my question, based upon what I've wrote, do you think it's the switch from O2 to Sky broadband (maybe the O2 router isn't compatible with Sky broadband?) or do you think it's the phone - what with the phone having to be taken off the hook to get online and the static on the line? Thank!

      It sounds like you have a line fault. Specifically I am suspecting what is known as a 'high resistance' fault, which is basically a short somewhere.

      The BTO Engineer should be able to find and fix this relatively easily, but it may take a short time or a long time to locate and repair.
