Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Hi,
First post on this forum, which is very informative.
I joined Sky Broadband Unlimited yesterday from BT and am using the SR101 router. Speed was set at 4mbps according to router and confirmed by speed test, which I read on this forum is what they start you at.
Got up this morning, speed on router still 4mbps, but speedtest showing only 1.4 mbps download, which would follow as downloading a few test files seemed slow.
Is this drop in speed normal as part of the learning process or should I contact Sky?
Broadband from BT before I switched averaged about 7.5 mbps
Thank you for your anticipated help.

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
You need to wait for the DLM process to begin reprofiling your connection.
Currently you are on the initial connection speed (~4096kbps d/l & 606kbps u/l).
The DLM software is currently monitoring your line and be looking to assess the quality of the line. After 3-4 days the reprofiling will commence and complete after typically 10 days.

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Thank you for response. Hope the speed does improve over the coming days, as it's now down to less than 1mbps according to the speedchecker. Will post back in a few days.

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Your speed should be better than that, even at the start speed. Can you post your router stats, just in case something needs attention.

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
Speed has definitely improved overnight. Downloading a test file now on a couple of spped checkers gives just over 4mbps. Not sure why it is 4 mbps because connection speed says 5017 on router?
Do these stats seem ok at moment?
Here is my router info:

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Excellent you are looking good for around 14-16Mb. Remember that you always loose some speed due to line overheads. 10-15% is normal for ADSL, so you will never get the full sync speed of the router..
Remember keep your router powered up and connected during the training period.

Thats good to hear. Thank you for your quick response. Will post back results
after training period. Wouldn't have been impatient myself, but getting hassle of teenage kids that youtube was constantly buffering / skype dropping out, etc. and moaning that we'd swapped and it was worse speed !

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
When it settles down you should have almost double the speed you had before, so tell the kids to be patient.

Re: Joined Sky Broadband Yesterday - Poor Speed !
Bit of an update !
Below are stats from this morning. Connection speed was going up by about 1mps a day, but now same as yesterday (approx 6 mbps). Is this normal for speed to stay the same or should it still be climbing every day?
