Speed difference between speedtest and router statistics?
I have Sky Unlimited Broadband with "up to" 20 Mbps speed using the Sky Sagem router. I used to get around 9Mbps which was fine but lately have thought it getting slower. Today I did a speed test at Speedtest.net and and am getting around 4Mbps. When I checked on the Sky Router Statistics it shows a Connection Speed of 12284kbps, line attenuation of 28.5db and noise margin of 5.9db (sorry don't know how to post this properly). The connection speed doesn't seem to vary so is this set at when broadband was first setup? Why would there be such a wide gap between what the router is showing and what I'm getting?
You can probably tell that I know next to nothing about how all this works so any help would be appreciated.

Are you using wireless to connect to the router?
(sorry don't know how to post this properly)

Sorry, haven't use wired for so long I'd almost forgotten it's a possibility! Definitely wireless. Thanks for the tip on posting the stats. Here they are:

Re: Speed difference between speedtest and router statistics?
Given you know how to get the stats. Have you tried changing your wireless channel?
I don't do tech support but I would try doing this first myself.

Yes, have changed the wireless channel to 1 which is the least-used around my house.

You should try wired then if possible.

Re: Speed difference between speedtest and router statistics?
Apart from your wireless speed, your sync speed is a bit low for your attenuation. Plug into the Test socket, using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky and post your stats from there.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket
If you have not already done it, try using Inssider, link below, to find your best wireless channel.

Re: Speed difference between speedtest and router statistics?
Thanks, Isitme, that looks like a good idea. Unfortunately, the Master Test socket is a little inaccessible at the moment so it may take me a while to do this! Incidentally, I tried the speed test again yesterday and it had shot up to just over 10Mbps and today it is 6.89Mbps so it still varies a lot. I will post again when I get to the Master Test socket.

Re: Speed difference between speedtest and router statistics?
With WiFi this often points to interference from another network. It is possible someone does not leave their network running and when they open it up, your speed drops. Use Inssider at varying times to try to establish what is going on.
