Move to 3rd party ADSL router
Hi.
My Sky Sagem router died yesterday, I suspect it's the PSU, but I've tried a similar 12v 1a psu and it's still not working (@ and 1,2,3,4 LEDs are lit, no other activity). I have my router's username and password from a previous support call with sky, and a *very* old ADSL modem that I'd like to replace the sky router with.
The question is, what needs to be set-up in the 3rd party modem, other than the username and password? The specs for this rather vintage modem can be found here: http://www.smc.com/files/AT/DS_7401BRAv1.pdf would this be compatible with the sky network?
cheers
Jim

Re: Move to 3rd party ADSL router
It depends a lot on the speed you are connecting at the moment. The router you link to only supports G.DMT/Lite which means it will only support up to 8 Mbps. I am pretty sure all of Sky's ADSL lines also supports G.DMT, but your speed is likely to be reduced, especially if you are on a high speed at the moment.. Your best bet would be to buy a Sky router from eBay, they are fairly cheap, under a tenner. sky router wireless n | eBay
