Unexpected speed drop?
Hi all. Logged in to my 2504n the other day to find my speed has dropped around 8000 to 5000 kbps, also the attenuation has raised from 40.0db to 51.0db? I rung sky and they logged a fault with openreach but I was wondering what would cause the sudden speed drop?

Re: Unexpected speed drop?
There could be a line fault. Does making a telephone call effect your internet connection? Have you performed a quite line test? When replying could you also post your router stats? They help with the overall picture. If you have it, a copy of your stats prior to the fault occurring could also be useful.

Re: Unexpected speed drop?
The speed you have now is about what you would expect from the attenuation. If that is from the test socket then it shows there is a fault somewhere on your line. As Seawright says, do a quiet line test, also try a high resistance test by bring up your stats on the screen and making a phone call. If your noise margin increases a lot that indicates an HR fault which is usually esily fixed.
Not surprised, I meant to say plug into the Master socket.

Re: Unexpected speed drop?
Well after a month later and several openreach visits to my house I'm still at 5mb. The engineers worked on the ancient pole outside the house which was covered in ivy, sky have ran DLM twice resulting in no change. The main reason for the speed drop in the first place I think is the attenuation raising from 40.0 to 52.0, I wish I knew what the problem actually was!
