Sky Router
I have a Sony Viao laptop which connects to the Virgin Media wireless router. but when I took it to someones house who had Sky, I entered all the details from the sky router but the laptop would not connect to the internet even though it was connected to the sky router. I am on Windows 7 and tried Firefox/IE9 etc. Internet access bar on bottom right hand corner were all solid. can anyone help?

Re: Sky Router
There could be many causes for this. One possible reason to check is if they have enable the Wireless Access List.
Not knowing the specifics, it would be unfair to comment further.
I would basically check the following though:
- Where are you getting the WiFi password from? It is possible that they have changed it from the default settings
- Is the 'case' correct? Sky's default passwords use 8 capital letters (no numbers)
- If the router is a Sagem 2405N (silver top, black underside) or the Sky Hub SR101, try using the WPS button if your laptop supports it
I haven't seen anyone post with regards to specific problems getting a laptop to sign into a Sky router for a long time. Those issues were resolved by updating the drivers. A Windows 7 laptop should not have those issues unless you have installed Win 7 on an old laptop and have an old WiFi adaptor installed.

Re: Sky Router
Has Win7 picked up the right "homegroup"? If it thinks you're connected to a public network, it may have restricted access. If you're actually connected to the router then it may be more likely that Win7 is causing the issue.

Re: Sky Router
Thanks Scubbie/Mattan
I will try your suggestions, and maybe connect using LAN cable.
It must be something simple
I will have a play around and if i can get it fixed will post it.
Thanks again.
