D-Link (Sky) router - Slow Speeds
Hi Everybody.. Good to be here..
I seem to be having similar issues with broadband speeds as most others here.
My story is as follows:
I have a D-Link Black router (i would say it is a year or so old) well, that is when i got it at least - I tried to find numbers but can not anywhere on the router.
Now, according to 192.160.0.1 - my speeds are
Router stats are as follows
Router Statistics
System Up Time: 01:13:08
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN MER 41337 50021 0 2411 12372 01:11:56 LAN 55844 47692 0 12879 2693 01:13:08 WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 01:11:46 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 17459 kbps 1150 kbps Line Attenuation 15.0db 8.7db Noise Margin 6.9db 8.5db
They have tried everything, short of putting me through to Agents Fox and Mulder, which they said wont be able to do until they have sent me, and i have received a new router... Which they have sent. They have sent a Wireless N (but not sure of brand company) but from what i have seen online, it is most like Sagem!
they say my 'through speed' is 1.5gb from the speed test site they sent me to!
I have a 1gig network card, new cat 5 cable, new telephone cable!
Now the thing is, i do a lot of work that requires transfering big hefty files from 1 computer to another (say from UK to US) i am using GuildFTPD to do this as i want to keep the files as private as possible (i am a script writer and editor so basically PDF's which are not a problem) but film files are quite large!
From the FTP, people are only getting 120kbps both up and downloading!
My brother, who is also a sky customer on the same package as i, cannot get anymore than 120kbps!
Frustrated as frustrated can be... Any help would be lovely!
Thanks

Re: D-Link (Sky) router - Slow Speeds
I think you are probably getting an upload of 120KBps, which is almost as much as you will get with Sky ADSL.
If your work and livelyhood depend on it, you need to go to an ISP who uses Annex M which would give you an upload of 250-300KBps, which may not even be enough for your purpose. Your only real alternative is to upgrade to Fibre Pro, if it is available to you, with an upload of 20Mbps, giving you a rate of about 2.0-2.4MBps. Check your exchange for Fibre availability.
