Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
Hi there,
Sky Broadband unlimited connection has recently been really, really poor.
Running speedtest in the AM results in speeds around 9mb, whilst in the evening speeds are around 1mb.
I stream a lot of football (skygo etc) and the speeds are just not good enough to keep a stable connection.
I have the custom firmware for the 2504n - stats taken a few mins ago are as follows (not even got a phone connected to the line at the minute)
(Stats attached)
Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
Are you wireless ?, not overly familiar with the stats you have posted, but connection looks fine (synced speed looks about right for your am speed test)

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
Thanks for the reply. Tried this on both wired and wireless.
Think this is something to do with the recent press coverage on Sky over subscribing their exchanges rather than anything technical. Just read a few bits that Sky making changes now to solve the issues.
Cheers.

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
There have been a few technical issues with Sky both yesterday and today. This might be your issue.
As for over-subscribing to their broadband, it would help to know which exchange you are connected to. This does happen periodically in some areas as it is the backhaul (the trunk link between your exchange and several others) which will be struggling.
Once Sky has confirmed an issue, they are normally very good at increasing the capacity but it can take two or three months.

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
Ok, that isn't specifically listed, but you may wish to check out the Service Status page:
Sky Service Status
There is a link to check whether your exchange is affected by a known problem. If all appears well, I would then be tempted to raise the issue.
However, if the only problem is with Sky Go, then it may be Sky Go not your connection. There are some issues currently with the service.

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
Thanks Scubbie. Says no issues with the area.
Now using another streaming site and same issues. Connection has dropped from 9mb-7mb-4mb-2mb as the evening has gone on.
Tempted to look at BT as an alternative as a friend says BT users are prioritised as far as ADSL is concerned?

Re: Sky Broadband Unlimited Connection Drops
That's a load of cods-wallop apart from perhaps BT business which I believe BT may prioritise over their Residential customers.
Also Skys LLU broadband will be using Skys own network, even if Sky choose to buy the physical connectivity for the kit from BT they'd be buying certain speed of link and it would either be a physically dedicated link end2end or even if BT supplied it as a virtual path over a larger aggregated link it would be at a 1:1 contention ratio.
If there's congestion on Skys LLU network it will be because Sky haven't installed enough capacity somewhere. I suspect if the lead-time is 2-3 months for a larger capacity circuit then it's probably a physical link rather than a virtual path (I.e it needs someone to out and physically install another one or upgrade kit to handle the higher speeds)
