Re: VPN Dropping DSL Connection?
Could quite possibly be a bug in the firmware triggered by the VPN software.
Not the first time I've seen routers reboot/crash because of something they didn't like.
Wan uptime resetting could just be DHCP lease renewal, didn't some of the Sagems have an issue where the lease was allowed to expire rather than renewing at 50%?

Re: VPN Dropping DSL Connection?
Well, the router has not disconnected in over 60 hours either using VPN or not.
The disconnections could be caused by the weather, however I noticed this start a couple of weeks ago and the cabling is all underground, so unlikely caused by the recent snow.
I'll be keeping an eye on it and see what happens.
BTW, does anyone know what the new firmware is meant to update?

Re: VPN Dropping DSL Connection?
Well, after 60+ hours of no disconnections, it's dropped twice this evening.
Unless something is up with the ducting/cabling etc. I can't see it's the weather. We've had worse snow and rain previously and I've never seen my connection drop.
It's difficult to know whether or not it's happening during the day. Is there any way of stopping the log from resetting when the DSL re-connects?

Re: VPN Dropping DSL Connection?
Setup Dyndns or similar service https://www.dlinkddns.com/login (Don't worry that it's dlink branded it's dyndns.com under the hood) so you have a DNS name that will update itself if your IP address changes
Enable Wan ping on your router so you can be pinged from the internet.
use either F8lure (http://f8lure.mouselike.org), Thinkbroadband monitor (thinkbroadband :: Broadband Quality Monitor) or Pingdom (http://www.pingdom.com , the free account with a single check is plenty) pointing at your Dyndns name.
F8lure and TBB monitor will ping your line frequently to graph your latency, and will show red where packetloss is detected (You'll see 100% packetloss if it drops until it comes back)
Pingdom pings you once a minute (or less frequently if you set it to) if you don't respond they ping you from another location, if you still don't respond they mark your host as down and then send an alert (if you have alerts on)
Personally I use F8lure to check my ping and Pingdom to check if the lines actually up (But then I have a pingdom account anyway to monitor some servers)

Re: VPN Dropping DSL Connection?
No "Keep my logs" checkbox then?
I've watched the DSL go down and back up and it probably only takes about a minute so pinging might not catch it (everytime). Pre-Sky my Netgear never used to purge the log if it had a disconnection. Might even have to try plugging that in and seeing if it works. That would also rule out/in the recent firmware upgrade.
