Line Testing started again on my Line. What Speeds should I expect?

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to provide a definitive answer.

The GPO, BT and BT Openreach have used various cables over the years since they first started. The pure copper cables are typically the best. In more recent years they have introduced aluminium coated copper cables that provide a weaker broadband connection. Obviously older cables do deteriorate as well.

Since I have not worked as a telecoms engineer I am not in a position to provide a full breakdown of the information. Also, without someone actually looking at your specific line, we can't say what is the specific difference in your case.

Understandably BTO are reluctant to replace the cable if there isn't an actual problem and sadly they won't take a higher Line Attenuation as a problem if you are getting a good connection.

However, you may be experiencing some issues as your line is being tested for the connection speed again. What I could suggest is that you speak with your neighbours and see if they too have noticed a problem. If enough of you were to report a problem, then perhaps BTO will attend and replace the trunk cabling.

I may pay off to speak with your neighbours though. Most are unlikely to notice such behaviour, but if shown what to do, they could quickly learn and benefit from such help.
