How do I increase my connection speed?
Hi All,
I have recently switched to Sky Broadband unlilmited from O2. Whilst on O2 i was getting around 7mbps download speeds, and this ties in with my disctance to the exchange.
I switched to Sky on the 18th of Dec, when running any speed test the speed gets to 3.5mbps and stays there, it hardly fluctuates which makes it seem like it is limited electronically rather than physically.
My router shows stats of Downstream Connection Speed 4096, Line Attenuation 43.5 and Noise Margin 8.9.
If I put this data into The ADSL and ADSL2+ Line Capability Estimator then based on the Line Attenuation and Noise Margin I should be able to get 7.6mbps ... like I did with O2.
Any idea how I can get a faster rate, the Sky hub seems to me to be negotating too low Connection Speed with the exchange.
Thanks

Re: How do I increase my connection speed?
Take your router stats and post them - How to get your Sky Router statistics
Check that all phone sockets in use have a filter plugged into the socket first, before any other device.

Re: How do I increase my connection speed?
All phone sockets in the house have ADSL filters attached.
Here are the stats ... really looks like its underusing the line capacity ...

Also this is what my broadband account says:
Your Connection DetailsWe constantly monitor your line to make sure it has been set to support the fastest speed possible whilst maintaining a stable connection.
Line connection testing completed on 24/12/2012, resulting in the following settings:
Download speed setting
Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to 4.1Mbps .

Re: How do I increase my connection speed?
You should get speed of 6Mb-9Mb with those stats. You may find your noise margin drops down to 6db if the line is stable and this will increase your connection speed. Are you plugged in to the master socket and do you use a filtered faceplate as this could certainly help with your connection speed.
You could phone Sky and ask them to run DLM again. What was your estimated speed when you ordered the broadband?
