Sky discriminating against the Disabled
I am resposible for a women living in a care home. As she is mentally dsabled she cannot answer questions from the Sky help team. ( More of a victim support group.). The carers asked me out of frustration to get the password as this has been lost so they can reset the box if it crashes again. We also wanted to get other services for other residents in the home. After one hour and several calls via India we got no joy. I can't believe after an hour on the phone after being passed from pilliar to post we still got no joy. I was also told we could not cancel if we didn't khnow the password.

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
Hello acl, welcome to the forum.
The password will have been set up by her, or should have been when the account was set up.
There is other information which can be asked for. Is it possible to call Sky in her presence?

Another option is if you have a power of attorney to send a copy to sky by registered post asking for you to have access to the account. Of course I don't know if your situation requires a POA.
I have also sent you a PM about your profile.

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
I read this more as adhering to data protection law rather than discrimination.
Who is the named account holder?

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
Bit misleading post title. While I have sympathy for the situation, data protection these days is a real hot topic, I for one would rather be safe in the knowledge that no one could alter my data!
Sky called me the other night giving me offers and discounts. They said before they can proceed they want to know the password on my account. I explained that my name address and date of birth could be easily obtained online and asked them to confirm my viewing card number before I would confirm my password.
I hope you are able to get it sorted!

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
Of course this is entirely down to Data Protection. Knowing that someone could be disciplined for breaching Data Protection, it isn't a good idea to encourage someone to break it.
There is some other information which could be asked for. Understandably many people will forget their password from time to time. It would be worth calling Sky again during 'normal' office hours to ensure that a UK call centre answers.
As for people calling myself, I specifically ask them to confirm who they are before I give out any personal information if I do not know them personally or recognise their voice or number. It helps if I have been advised to expect a call, but even then I tend to play it careful until I know for sure whom it is I am speaking with.

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
I have to call companies on behalf of my dad & it's always the same simple procedure.
After confirming his name, address & account number, i'm asked to pass the phone over to him & he's asked if it's ok for me to act on his behalf.
The only difference with sky is that they ask for a password instead of the account number.
Not a problem for me, as i set up the account for him in the first place.
One home shopping company said we could permanently negate the need to do this each time if we wrote to them.
Iirc, the letter would just need to contain all of his account details, my name & both of our signatures.

Re: Sky discriminating against the Disabled
I have removed the full phone number from your profile.
If you wish I can forward this thread onto Sky to see if they can do anything to help resolve the issue for you?~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~
