Re: Is my broadband finding its true speed or just all over the place.
I wonder if some were just too keen to restart the DLM training mode and not resolve the potential issue?
@The OP: As previously mentioned DLM will reset the line between 1am and 6am. Typically most of the reconnections are between ~2am and 3am. You can see this but looking at the router's connection stats and noting the WAN Up time.

Someone should be able to pass Dazzle over to CST.

Re: Is my broadband finding its true speed or just all over the place.
Hi All. thanks again for the replys.
Ive spoken to sky again...What a carry on!
anyhow they reckon theyve started DLM and my speeds up to 1498. which they said again was what they expected the line to cope with.
I know its slow but in % 1498 is a leap from 988 kbps!
System Up Time: 28:04:18

EDIT...
I actually saved the online chat that I had yesterday this is part of it. Advisors name replaced with "Sky" this is after they had altered my speed..
"Sky": The current download speed in 1498 Mbps
"Sky": This seems to be the fastest stable connection, your line can support.
You: OK
"Sky": The line test has passed.
"Sky": The the line has been put on optimisation for monitoring purpose.
"Sky": This usually takes 8-10 days.
You: Is that DML?
"Sky": Yes, correct.
"Sky": Once everything is fine, the lien will be stable with most desired profile.
"Sky": Or the most suitable frequency.
I have since looked in My Sky at My Broadband and can only see that some previous Line connection testing completed on26/10/2012. No mention that it is been monitored at present.
These is my stats now, (the day after the above stats) @ 14:30 1st Nov

Can anyone tell me by looking at both set of stats that my line is been monitored?Last edited by Dazzle; 01-11-12 at 06:49 PM.

Your WAN has not reset so if it is monitoring, it is doing nothing.

Re: Is my broadband finding its true speed or just all over the place.
Looks like DLM training isn't running as you'd normally get the WAN re-syning 12am-6am. It's probably set to monitor the line. In theory, if DLM feels the line can take more, it will increase the speed. conversely if you're getting a lot of errors, it will reduce the connection speed.

Re: Is my broadband finding its true speed or just all over the place.
Thanks Folk, I suspected as much. I thought i'd understood Scubbie's post.
Once again it looks like Sky have missinformed me!
I can see Skys thinking...this guys on a low speed hes having problems getting a decent speed, so what we'll do is next time he rings is cap his speed at a lower speed than hes ever known. Next time he rings give him a extra 50% speed, he'll be most greatful, after all its a massive leap on what he had!, Tell him were keeping a eye on his line...Bla de bla!.

Re: Is my broadband finding its true speed or just all over the place.
Normally with your attenuation and a decent line you would get 4-5Mb with a 7 db margin. The fact that you are getting no where near that means you have a very poor line or they have made a complete mess of configuring it. I think you should call them and insist politely that you be passed to the CST as you are not in the least happy with the service you have received.
