Hello im on a 10MB plan with sky, package of phone internet and tv.

At my other house we have virgin media and the download speed i get ON THE SAME TORRENT i get 1.5mb download speed....
The upload speed idles at around 20-30kbps never ever gone over 100. This has been happening for at least half a year now, bored of having to wait hours on end for the download to complete, its also not just downloading stuff, like i clicked on sky forums today and it took at least 40 seconds to load :\??

Re: Need urgent help/advice
Take a look at your µTorrent settings. I would recommend that you limit the upload speed to something around 30-40kBps.
If you allow the upload speed to go unchecked, there is no room for handshaking and the download speed becomes maxed out.
As for you actual download where it is maxing out at 340kBps, this is correct. The most I achieve on my connection (my stats are in my signature) is 1.8-2.1MB.
Note the use of upper and lowercase 'B'. The difference it bits and Bytes. The router is reporting in bits, µTorrent reports the speed in Bytes.

Re: Need urgent help/advice
Thanks for the reply Scubbie,
I've done exactly what you said to do, i have set my upload speed to 25kB/s and ive set my download speed to 500kB/s.
The download is averaging at 315-320kB/s so its gone down a little bit today and the download has got 372 seeds :\
Is it correct though that when im downloading stuff i cannot use my internet browser to go on ebay and youtube etc?
Also im on the exact same plan with virgin media and im getting way better download speeds than sky.... :\

Re: Need urgent help/advice
What you get from a specific torrent will vary according to where you are downloading it from.
If the torrent is hogging all your potential bandwidth then it will by definition prevent other things from happening. If you can imagine a pipe of water that can only flow at a given rate. Now allow the blue water to flow at that rate. What chance do you have to poor some red water through it at the same time? It will try and squeeze a few drops in at a time, but nothing substantial.
You can restrict the download speed as well if you like.
As for the VM connection there can be a few reasons for this. Essentially it will be using a different telephone line that sounds likely to be of a better quality than the line used by Sky. At the telephone exchange, the kit for Sky may be slightly further from the kit used by VM. Also on particularly long telephone lines there is a point where ADSL can be quicker than ADSL2+.
With this last point in mind, could I suggest that you give Sky a friendly call and ask the person to try setting your line up on 'G.DMT' (aka ADSL or ADSL1). Take a look to see if the connection speed is any better. If it is then leave it there.
If the connection speed is worse, ask if they could put it back to ADSL2+.
