Internet problem with phone connected
Hello,
I have an issue with my Broadband lite which is via the phoneline. My router plugs into a telephone extention cable which is plugged into a socket across the room. Now the strange thing is when I plug my house phone into the main socket which has the extention bit in, my router looses the internet connection until I unplug the phone again. I am using a microfilter router end.
Does anyone know why plugging a phone in causes my broadband to die?

Re: Internet disconnects!
Your phone needs to plug in via a filter. If your router extension is via a plug in type extension you will need to plug that in first, then plug a filter in to that so you can then plug the phone in. You will also need a filter at the other end of the extension so you can plug your router in.

Re: Internet disconnects!
Ive got a feeling ive tried that but will double check later today, theres 2 ways in which it can connect, i remember trying the filter into master socket then the phone into that and broadband into that (the phone has a double socket on it.
Ive just re-read my initial post and realised i said it disconnects when the phone connects. I need to correct that! When the phone is connected i still have the internet but the router connection speed drops to 9500 but when i unplug the phone it increases to 14000ish.
When i tried using a filter i could not get any internet connection atall.
I will try the method you mentioned though.

Re: Internet disconnects!
Hello, i have done what you mentioned and it has boosted the router speed to DownStream Connection Speed 10239 kbps , if i unplug the phone it goes to 14245, is there anything else i can do to help it?
Sky are telling me to plug everything into the test socket. would that help? Post edited - i cant plug an extension cable into the phone socket i don't think so cancel that.

Re: Internet disconnects!
really filter should go into socket first and run telephone on extension lead and router separately try plugging just telephone and router in filter without extension first if no problem fit extension to telephone only , closer router to main socket usually better speed if you cant set-up like that then use separate extension lead , these leads can have bearing on quality of bb connection

Re: Internet disconnects!
If you are using a trailing phone extension to plug in the router, you are going to have problems. If you can't plug the router directly into the master socket, do yourself a favour and buy a dedicated ADSL extension kit from Runitdirect.

Re: Internet disconnects!
The various test sites tend to get hammered at popular times, such as in the evening and weekends. Try a different server and also do a few tests to get a better indication about what you can get.

If you really want to know, take your stats and post them, thentake you stats from the Test socket, using only the ADSL cable and filter supplied by Sky and post them too.
