No internet access at my dad's house
Hello, I'll start by saying I've never posted a thread before so apollogies if I've put it in the wrong place.
I've got what I hope is a fairly simple problem. When I go to my Dad's house I cannot get internet access through his sky broadband. He's got a D-Link router about 2 years old which he connects to wirelessly. I am able to connect to his router but there's no primary dns connection according to windows trouble shooter. We both have windows 7 laptops & both use AVG free edition.
When he comes to my house he is able to connect to my talktalk (also a D-link router) without any problem. I believe I followed the same windows driven steps to make the connection in both cases yet one worked & the other didn't. I've checked the very basic & obvious things like security key but don't know enough about it to confidently start tinkering with other settings. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: No internet access at my dad's house
A couple of simple things to do:
Ideally the router should be left on 24/7. Perhaps a simple power cycle may be enough to clear this issue.
If that fails, not any 'personalised' settings and then, with the power switched on, press the reset button for 10 seconds. Check it works, then reintroduce the personalised settings.
If this fails to work, then he will need to contact Sky to see if they can supply him with a replacement router. If they insist on charging for the new router, try to get the price reduced. It is possible that they may just charge for P&P for a new Sagem 2504N.
In the mean time, I would also set his Laptop to use a public DNS server. There are a few to choose from, OpenDNS and Google's DNS servers are the more popular:

As for changing the settings, see the link below (don't set the IP Address, just the DNS Servers:

PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

If you are running Win 7 try setting the Properties up like this -

Thanks Isitme,
I've made a note of those settings & I'll try them on Wednesday.
