Regards your speed problem, can you connect by ethernet and do a speed test? Also make sure that nothing else is uploading on your network.

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
Well here is an update I rang Sky and he said there must be a problem as my speeds are low, I plugged my router direct into the main socket upstairs (took the front panel off and plugged it into the mains socket and my speeds went up, I then put the front cover back on and plugged it back to where it was and speeds went back down! He then started to say it’s a problem with the front panel of the phone socket and I have to pay for someone to come out and look at it??? Can anyone help please

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
Well We had our alarm wired to the Telephone a couple of Weeks ago, and the alarm engineer did something with the mastersocket upstairs
Could he have done something to it? But when he finished the internet was fine
So Im confused, what he sauid he did was activate the 2 sockets downstairs by doing something with the upstairs box (I think he wired the downstairs socket wire so they worked?)

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
If you are getting better speeds from the test socket, then it suggests an internal wiring fault.
A normal BT line / extensions only need pins 2 and 5 connected, normally white/blue and blue/white coloured.
The tutorial I posted shows the front plate with the extension wiring etc
If you can unscrew the face plate and take a photo, we can have a better idea.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
Are you normally using the Master Socket for your broadband?
Also when the Alarm engineer installed the alarm, how did he connect it to the line?
If he failed to connect it through a filter then call the company and ask that a competent engineer return immediately to fix the fault as they have messed up your broadband.
Personally I would also consider fitting the vDSL faceplate to the Master Socket and connect your router to that.
BT/Openreach VDSL/ADSL Premium Faceplate - VDSL I Plate
PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
He fitted the alarm witha filter to the socket downstairs, butt eh socket downstairs wasnt live when he tested, so to make it live he had to connect a wire upstairs within the master socket (if that makes sense ) once he did this the downstairs socket worked.

Re: Urgent Broadband Help Needed
Did he connect the wire going to your downstairs to the faceplate of the master socket? What wires are connected to the faceplate of your master socket? Is there a wire on terminal #3?
A photo would be useful.
