Router keeps disconnecting... Help!
Hi
Since the downpour in London the other day (coincidence?), my router keeps disconnecting every few minutes.
The connection just drops, the @ flashes yellow a few times and boom all gone. The router will reconnect, connection will stay up for a few minutes (between 2 and 10min mostly) and then dc again.
I've tried unplugging everything else but the router, used the test socket, etc but no change. There's no noise on the phone line either.
I installed a new socket and filtered faceplate a couple of months ago and it's been working perfectly until Saturday.
What is going on??
PS: I'm on Canonbury exchange, in case that mattersLast edited by dragonmike; 25-09-12 at 11:47 AM.

Re: Router keeps disconnecting... Help!
Your line may be running through a flooded manhole which is causing your problem. Do you have another router you could try? It may also be worth trying another PSU if you have a 12v one lying around.
Failing all that, all you can do is call Sky and jump through their hoops.

Re: Router keeps disconnecting... Help!
I was in the process of doing the sky hoops on Sunday but ran out of time... :-/
I have a Netgear DGND3300d I could try using, but I haven't set it up for Sky at all yet. Any settings you know I could preconfigure to try it out?
I must say I kinda suspect the manhole theory to be closer to the truth however...

Re: Router keeps disconnecting... Help!
Last night it finally stabilised, i.e. no disconnection for a few hours. The flooded manhole theory is starting to make a lot of sense!
Realistically, what could I attempt (or who should I contact) to have this checked out? Obviously this is outside my house and probably somewhere between my house and the nearest cabinet. Who's actually in charge of that bit? Who can I ask to put a better (shielded?) and dry cable? Would that be Sky? BT? A private electrician?

Re: Router keeps disconnecting... Help!
Everything between your house and the exchange is the responsibility of BT Openreach. However if your rental is with Sky everything has to be done through them. BTO will not even speak to you. I must say though, unless the problem is knocking out a lot of users they are unlikely to replace any wiring. It is just about impossible to protect wiring in manholes against flooding. All it needs is one small hole in the cable duct to allow water in. They just pump out the manhole and let it dry out until the next flood.
If you want to try using your own router, have a look here for a start.- http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...tions-faq.html
If your line is on PPPoA it is fairly easy, if it is on MER only, then it is almost impossible to get a proper connection with that router.
