Hi all
I'm looking to join Sky from BT.
When I complete a line checker on Sky, they estimate my speed to be 2mb to 5mb. However, the BT checker estimates my speed at 6.5mb to 8.5mb. I am concerned I will receive a slower speed.
My current stats are:
ADSL Line StatusConnection Information Line state: Connected Connection time: 4 days, 01:54:02 Downstream: 9.397 Mbps Upstream: 1.094 Mbps ADSL Settings VPI/VCI: 0/38 Type: PPPoA Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A Latency type: Interleaved Noise margin (Down/Up): 3.4 dB / 6.1 dB Line attenuation (Down/Up): 39.2 dB / 23.7 dB Output power (Down/Up): 20.4 dBm / 12.3 dBm FEC Events (Down/Up): 66707064 / 1232 CRC Events (Down/Up): 53786 / 208 Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 HEC Events (Down/Up): 169852 / 218 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 15792 / 213
Is there any reason for the quoted speed difference?
Also, what speed would you expect I should receive from Sky? Do you automatically put people on ADSL2+?
Many thanks
Graeme

Re: New customer
Broadband checkers always suggest my speed will be between 3-5mbps, yet every broadband connection I've had (ADSL2+) has been around 10-11mpbs.
Speed is dependant on your line quality, and changing to Sky doesn't change your line, it just changes what it is connected to at the Exchange, so I don't think you'll see any difference.

Re: New customer
Just in case, take a look at the Sam Knows site and check that Sky have their equipment in your local exchange. If they haven't, then avoid ordering Sky Broadband Connect and check for other ISPs.

Re: New customer
Thanks for your replies.
My exchange (Chorley) is sky enabled so I hopefully should be on the main sky package.
I just hope my speed is similar to what I have now.
