Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
I've been popping my postcode in to this checker: Broadband and Talk service updates | Sky Customer Support most days since all this started & it finally updated today:
Status - Exchange affected
Resolution date - End October
I seriously hope this isn't one of the ones that gets delayed for months...
My first year with sky broadband:
4 months stuck on connect (despite only signing up because i received a letter stating 'unlimited now in your area').
4 good months.
2+ months enduring a HR fault, where it was practically unusable half the time.
16 good days.
6 weeks & counting with peak-time congestion.
So 50% of the year i've been able to game in the evenings, 50% of the time i haven't.
I'd say it's been 50/50 lol.Last edited by gymno; 23-09-12 at 06:07 PM. Reason: replaced link with one that didn't contain postcode

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
So why am i still with sky for broadband?
1) 'Truly' unlimited (unique)
2) Customer service (1st line=pfft, CST=10/10)
3) This site/forum (official one? pfft)
5) Price (i pay £7.50 for 20mb & get 20mb)
6) Knowledge (any line can develop a fault. Mine took 2+ months to sort out, not because of sky but because of another company)

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
7) Sky DOES resolve issues like this, even if occasionally they take 4/5 months to resolve
Nice to see yours will be resolved though.
PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
I was occasionally checking my post code too, but never appeared but to be honest I didnt check that much or often, I should have...
once its sorted you should contact the CEO office with a complaint and explain that it would be nice if you were offered some form of compensation for everything you have been through and everything you had too do to chase it up - I did and I got Line Rental @ £1 a month for 12 months...thats like £150..!! - mind, I know someone who got that AND a router just because he threatened to leave because he refused to PAY for a new router..!- Hardware - Netgear DG834Nv1

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
Sky's exchange checker has updated today & is now showing:
Status - Exchange not affected
So lets see what happens this evening...
And what my 2nd year with sky broadband will be like.

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
Every 2 or 3 days, but luckily i did yesterday & it was showing as affected then.
It may just be me, but everything seems a little faster, off-peak, today
All online speed checkers are giving 17.3 / 0.99 every time, as opposed to the usual 16.2-16.6 / 0.90-0.95.

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
Hi snadge.
Pings are averaging 24.5ms, so no different to what they have been off-peak lately.
The important thing though, is that for the first time in ages, they didn't shoot up into the 120-300ms range tonight.
I've still got a little more jitter than i always used to have, but put that down to dlm using a target noise margin of 6db.
Before dlm, i had 19999 / 1175kbps with a nm that started at 7.6db in the morning & dropped to 7db at night.
After dlm i have 19999 / 1175kbps with a nm that starts at 6db in the morning & drops to 5.3db at night.

Re: Upstream attenuation halved?
For this reason, i intend to call sky & ask to be put on the 20mb gamer profile.
Not for the 8ms delay, as i already have that, but to get my target noise margin of 7db back.
Hopefully i won't lose any speed.
I don't know about the upstream attenuation yet as i haven't done a reboot for ages.
I also want to leave it that way for when i phone sky, so they can see my line handles 20mb.
The resync caused by the switch to the gamer profile will reveal all.
Hhmmm.
I thought another post within 15mins gets added as an update to the previous one?
