Activated Today
Hi, my Sky Broadband Unlimited service went active today and I managed to get my own Netgear router working with the PPPoA settings I got from the Sagem router Sky sent me. Now I'm wondering what speed I should expect to end up with when their DLM is done. When I ordered I was told I had and estimated speed of 4-9.2Mbps and with my previous ISP I used to average around 7.5Mbps but have read other threads where people have lost speed on moving to Sky.
My setup is just as it was with my previous ISP, router connected direct to the pre-filtered faceplate of my NTE5 socket with no secondary wiring connected.
These are my router stats at present:
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN pppoa 328130 687509 0 3151 116935 02:18:25 LAN1 Link Down 23273 28036 0 4308 1567 -- LAN2 Link Down -- LAN3 Link Down -- LAN4 10M/100M 02:23:09 WLAN 300M 669400 305398 0 117607 3367 02:18:30 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 4094 kbps 605 kbps Line Attenuation 44.5 db 26.0 db Noise Margin 6.8 db 16.6 db
Many Thanks

Re: Activated Today
Hi, I was as per my old ISP and I get the same. 7mbps. You will have to wait and see what DLM does and this should increase over the next 10 days (everyone starts on 4094kbps). When your connection has been up over 72 hours I believe that's DLM over. A final reboot may or may not give you more. however I have a attenuation of 43DB and I get 7mbps synced at 7365kbps
SO that's a rough guide better than the guesstimate that can be given from this sites tools
As for Sky unlimited - good choice. I never worry about what I download. I do usenet fixed at 5mbps 24/7 and have done since I joined. that's about 240GB a week - no probs!

Re: Activated Today
Your noise margin looks a bit low for the start speed, its already below the old default. You should plug into your Test socket using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky, take and post your stats from there.

If you do not have a Test socket, remove everything you have plugged into the phone line except the router and take your stats.

Re: Activated Today
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. So I have connected a microfilter to my test socket and just have the adsl cable connected direct to the router. These are the stats from the router now:
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN pppoa 481412 598609 0 842 7867 19:23:19 LAN1 Link Down 208060 261322 0 4843 2809 -- LAN2 Link Down -- LAN3 Link Down -- LAN4 10M/100M 19:23:31 WLAN 300M 410361 236801 0 7255 511 19:23:13 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 4094 kbps 605 kbps Line Attenuation 44.5 db 26.0 db Noise Margin 7.8 db 16.6 db

Re: Activated Today
That's a bit better, but not much. Can you check that there is no dial tone on any of your extensions when the master faceplate is removed?

Re: Activated Today
I can tell you for a fact there isn't as I previously disconnected all the secondary wiring from the old NTE5 faceplate many months ago and it's taped up at the back of the socket.

Re: Activated Today
There are quite a few cases where all the sockets are not wired through the master or are incorrectly wired into the master. Many find they have a junction box feeding the master and one or more extensions. Hence my request.
If you are happy that everything is OK at your end, you will have to wait and see how it pans out. Your line may not have been set up properly, but you will have to wait until DLM is complete before Sky will look at it. Somewhere around 5-7Mb would be about average for your line
