2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
For two years I've put up with Sky giving me a lousy 1.8Mb/s speed when I should be getting (by their estimation) at least 4 mb/s. I have complained several times and been put through to totally unhelpful indian call centres. A couple of months ago, I said I was going to leave and suddenly got put through to a UK tech help person who had me jumping through broadband hoops until she said she would send me out new connection cable and filter. Then, she said, she call back and see if it made a difference. IT didn't and neither did she (call back).
Today I just got totally sick of it with pages timing out. Another speed check on Sky's site brought up a speed of 1.84Mb/s download and .298 upload speeds.
This is supposed to be their 'truly unlimited' service too which I am paying extra for and have been for two flaming years! GRRRRRR!

Post your stats?
How to get your router statistics - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!
And then if possible using the test socket?
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
Here are my router stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 8.0 db 6.0 db
Noise Margin 8.6 db 16.0 db
When I did the tests with the Sky tech support I made sure there were no other demands on the router (other connections), cut out all the various programs accessing the internet, etc to the point that the technician said it was down to either the router, the filter or lead or the signal.

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
Your router is synched at 8 meg and by the looks of your upload, you are on Connect not unlimited.

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
Sorry to sound thick, but would that impact on my download as well as I have been consistently been getting 1.8-1.9Mb/s ever since I started with sky?

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
You should be getting approx 8 meg downloads etc however on connect you are traffic shaped etc (Your router is connected at 8 meg)
Do the speeds increase during the day?
Do you hammer your connection? ie torrents etc (This would mean that your downloads become restricted if you do, hence the slower speeds etc)~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
you have the same issue as me too much noise on your upload i think (sure ill be corrected if not) unplug and trun everything off except your router and pc, turn everything off at the socket tv skybox and try you stats again..

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
Yeah I do d/l torrents but during the day, its painfully slow. Inevitably the fastest speed I ever see on a torrent is about 350kbs. A film might take a day or more to d/l. I have never seen a torrent downloading about 500kb per second.
The Sky technicians never mentioned that could be an option.... they thought it was initially my fault (software or router settings) until they checked it and then they said it was hardware.
How can I get this sorted please? I posted this same issue on the Sky forum and they can't be bothered to answer.
Thanks so much for your help btw.

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
The short answer, get rid of connect, it is dire. You have X amount of allowance to download per month and the average is Y (X / days of month) amount per day. If it looks like you are likely to hit the X amount, by the average, then traffic shaping kicks in.
Check on MySky to clarify that you are on Connect, and then I would ring Sky and ask if you could be moved to Unlimited. With your attenuation you should see a huge increase in speed and no shaping.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: 2 Years of terrible broadband speeds!
That is totally weird. When I joined Sky I was paying an extra £10 for unlimited. Now (as you correctly suggest) it says I am on Broadband Connect but does not give any indication as to there being an 'unlimited' option. I checked on updates and it says the only upgrade available is for a N router! No-one told me that I was no longer on unlimited.... that was the only reason I actually chose Sky!
