Re: New user. Is there a fault on my line?
With Sky's old default noise margin you would be lucky to get 8.5Mb, the very low margin is why you have such a high speed for the attenuation. I think Sky have dropped your margin right down to try and keep you happy, let's hope it does not end in tears.
Have you sorted out the phone problem?

Re: New user. Is there a fault on my line?
I was a little worried to see the margin drop so drastically. The support person on the line assured me it shouldn't cause instability so fingers crossed.
Phone problem? For the landline I got hold of a handset and 17070 and ran a quiet line test and couldn't hear any noise.
My mobile phone interference issue is intermittent. I haven't encountered it for a few days and it's very hard to monitor and I'm not sure if it's my phone being temperamental or not. All I know is that I've never encountered the problem outside the locality of my new home. O2 sent me a new SIM but that doesn't seem to have done much.
I live near railway/underground lines and a crossrail construction site as well as a major hospital. Don't know if those things contribute.
Still slightly puzzled why my attenuation is so high but there isn't really much that can be done about it, is there?

Re: New user. Is there a fault on my line?
Okay. Guess I'll just have to leave it, then. Although I might still ask to be let out of contract as Scubbie's very helpful link has now informed me that I'd need a conexant chipset router for best results, a situation deeply compounded by MER compatibility issues. This is more to do with what I want to do with my home network than min/maxing my connection speed. Ugh.
I was just informed that people calling into my sky talk landline are hearing error messages. Something like "no circuit connection available". Is this normal?
Here's hoping that fibre boosts performance significantly when it rolls around. Are ADSL2+ stats remotely useful for predicting FTTC performance?
Edit: My Noise margin is hovering around 1dB.

Re: New user. Is there a fault on my line?
If people are unable to cal you on the land-line you should call Sky and report a fault.
The Noise margin will fluctuate a little, so long as it doesn't go below zero (may show a very large number wen this happens), then all will be just fine.
