Re: Speedtest
Tried test socket no difference. the line was configed manually by sky as dlm would only get me to 15mb, sky say may only get 1mb more.

I would try sky again. I've been known to ring many times to get the right person to help me. I got my line from 16200 to 18760 but had go through people telling me its not possible first. The last time I rang it took 3 phone calls to get gamer profile and it jumped in speed again even though they said my speed would decrease.
Sent from my ST18iWith sky since 1997.

Re: Speedtest
That's already on a 'gamer profile' (8ms delays) - it's on the 18mbps profile (18016/1216).
SNR is already at target, so it's unlikely that manually profiling that will make it go any higher (or at least anything noticeable and worth the phone call).

Re: Speedtest
His attenuation is at 20 for his download. Mine at the time was 24 and I got better speeds than him. I wasn't saying he should go for a gamer profile, it was just an example of the conflicting reports you get from sky when you ring up. I would say he should be syncing at 19999 and achieve speed tests on a good day of 17mbps.
With sky since 1997.

Re: Speedtest
I wasn't trying to pick holes in what you were saying, just tossing in my opinion.
You see attenuation graphs all over the internet suggesting what lines are capable off, but it's really all suggestion - lines differ from each other. I've seen lines in the teens not get above 17mbps at max, whereas I've seen some in the mid 20s get 19 odd. There's no sure fire way of saying 'that line can support x mbps', but going by the SNR, the OP is at the most the line can handle.

Re: Speedtest
Just to go back to your original question, you will never be able to download at the same speed as you sync, due to line overheads. You should get somewhere between 15.3 and 16.2 Mb (10-15% of sync speed) Normally you will loose a bit more when using wireless, this can vary greatly depending on your local environment.
You could try starting in Safe Mode with Networking and go here Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and try a speed test. This will show whether your software, AV, firewalls or even malware is slowing you down.

Re: Speedtest
Yes all opinions are valid.
Just to say phoned sky lunchtime they have increased the line speed to 20mb
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 18486 kbps 1164 kbps Line Attenuation 20.5 dB 11.7 dB Noise Margin 6.9 dB 8.2 dB
Bit of improvement, said could put me back on the DLM as the last four days of testing i kept having power cuts which may cause DLM to think loss of sync and keep dropping the syn speed [Connected to sky broadband on 11/05/112]
Didn't think it was 10-15% more 5%
Don't know if i should let them put me back on DLM?
