Sky Sagem Router Problem
This is a very strange problem that I am having. According to both sky and my router page my download speed is set at 16mb and my upload is 770kbs. My problem is despite this I am getting under 1mb actual broadband speed. Sky have done a line test and everything passed. They are saying that it is a router problem. I plugged in my old D LINK sky router and it did exactly the same thing. Router stated 16mb download etc but not getting this actual speed.
My internet was fine and I was receiving 16mb up until the 11/5/12 when it slowed right down. Has anyone else had this problem. I did all the troubleshooting that sky asked me to do and it made no difference whatsoever. Now they are sending me a new Sagem router which will take 3 - 5 days and I do not think this will solve the problem. ANy help would be appreciated.

Re: Sky Sagem Router Problem
I am really sick to death of Sky Blatantly lying to me. They obviously know it is not a router problem. If it was a router problem then reverting back to my old one should have solved the issue but it did not. Im under contract so can't leave to go to another provider either. Ijust wish they would actually sort the problem.

Re: Sky Sagem Router Problem
Yep, same here as well in Earby (Lancashire). Switching to a PPPoA router seems to solve the problem for me.

Re: Sky Sagem Router Problem
I too am on the Winterton exchange, and have been suffering with dial-up-esque super-low speeds since Friday (and had a random reconnection/resync on Weds, which never normally happens...). Normally I get a solid 17.5meg down, and 1 up (with the exception of some moderate slow-down in peak times). It's been an absolute joke today, to the point that my normally rubbish 3G mobile internet reception has been outstanding in comparison!
I've been doing an essay for uni, so I haven't found the energy to ring Sky yet, though I will tomorrow - I just know how annoying it's going to be to wait while they rule out all the causes that we all know aren't going to be the problem... I'm really glad though that it's not just me, and am actually almost excited that someone from the same humble exchange has posted. All the other threads with similar issues seem to be too far afield to consider a coincidence.
The sync speed being absolutely fine, but appaling throughput, suggests something very wrong at Sky's end of the system.
I noticed after yet another reboot this evening, that the router is connecting using PPPoA, where it was definitely MER as recently as Friday, if not Saturday, from what I recall.
From what I'd read on the net, if it is still possible to get my username/password off the router, I might have some luck with an old DG834.

Re: Sky Sagem Router Problem
The problems in the North West have now been fixed so a router reboot should sort things out if you are still struggling.
Don't waste your breath or energy contacting Sky, it's really not worth the hassle!!

Re: Sky Sagem Router Problem
Mine has resynced today again saying the same download speeds on the router but is now saying it is MER/PPPoA connection. It is like it cant make its mind up which connection to use. It is beyond a joke how slow it is. Im glad I am not the only one in Winterton with a very slow service. have you rang sky to make them aware of the situation. They said to me the exchange is fine and it was my router. Please if you haven't already done so call them and tell them that you are on the same exchange as me and then they might do something about it.
