Awful Speed
Hi,
We have been with Sky BBU since about August last year, and since then our internet has been excellent, uptime, speed etc, no complaints.
In the last couple of weeks the speed has gone from great to god-awful. Router is connecting between 15,000-20,000 kbps, but the actual experienced speed is terrible. We have not changed anything, there are no attached devices that shouldn't be. It's not continuously bad, I was downloading stuff from Steam yesterday at 1.2 MB/s but yet again it's gone back to ****.
Eg:
Some stats:

Re: Awful Speed
Can you plug in with an ethernet cable and check your speed? It looks like it may be a wireless problem.

Re: Awful Speed
Can you check if your exchange is listed here-
Sky Help and Support | Service Status
Also check your line for noise, plug a corded phone into the Test/Master socket and dial one digit. You should hear nothing except maybe a very faint hiss.
Just to rule out nasties, if you are using Windows, can you start in Safe Mode with Networking and check your speed here- Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

Re: Awful Speed
Hi,
Mac user here. No corded phone available, and I believe there is only one working phone socket in our flat (installed by Openreach).
I just ran the test again, you can see the problem is intermittent.
Sky support says Wandsworth exchange is not affected. Also the exchange is 0.17 miles away, it's literally down the road.
Is it more likely that this is a capacity issue, or something at sky's end?

Re: Awful Speed
I doubt if it is a capacity issue, this would normally show over an extended period and not vary over a short period. Your only course is to phone Sky and jump through their hoops I'm afraid. Getting them to understand that your sync is fine but your throughput is poor is sometimes very difficult.

Re: Awful Speed
In my limited experience of complaining I've emailed from MySky detailing quite carefully the problem and I've been pleased with the results. As I'm not on SkyTalk this is the cheapest , most effective method.
You seem to get straight to someone more understanding.
